Halliburton's fortunes doubled with war
Edited on Wed Sep-29-04 04:48 PM by RedEarth
WASHINGTON, Sept. 29 (UPI) -- Halliburton Co., the company Vice President Dick Cheney headed for five years, vaulted into the top 100 defense contractors when the United States invaded Iraq in 2003, according to a new analysis by a public interest group.

Halliburton "was not even on the list" until 2003 when it won $4.3 billion in defense contracts, including a no-bid contract for oil services in Iraq, according to the Center for Public Integrity in Washington.

In 2003, it landed at No. 14.

Until 2003, Halliburton and its subsidiaries Brown & Root Services and Kellogg Brown & Root never won contracts totaling more than $658 million a year. In the five years leading up to 2003, the company's total contracts amounted to only $2.45 billion.

Cheney ran Halliburton as chief executive officer from 1995 to 2000, when he resigned to run for vice president. While Iraq was Halliburton's great windfall, having Cheney at the helm was almost as lucrative: In the five years he headed the company, Cheney doubled the receipts from the previous five years, according to CPI. Three years later, Halliburton's fortunes would double again with the war contract.

1. I recall that Brown & Root was a major beneficiary
of the Viet Nam war. They had all the business there.

2. making huge amounts of money on our dollars
with no bid contract. How easy it is, eh?

Meanwhile, seniors cannot pay for their medications and some forty one million people have no health insurance, While Halliburton's benefactor, Dich Cheney and George Bush, try to screw the elderly by promoting a fraud in Medicare that will cost them more than ever.

This country is broken. No longer is it for the people. It is for the rich corporatiions who pay NO taxes and even use our taxes to suplement their R&D.

Broken.

5. If Bill Clinton had profited $50 on anything like this
no bid crapola Cheney has pulled, impeachment would not have been good enough - they would have put him in a stockade for 50 days before they took him out and shot him.

This is what you get when one party runs everything. No Republican can come up for ethics violations because they control the committees that are supposed to be policing this stuff.

And the democrats are all running scared because they know these bastards will absolutely stop at nothing.

I remember America when....

10. Must be nice to be rich.
Think a single dollar of that will go to the families of the dead and wounded? Nah, that would be too much compassionate conservative for BushCo.
