EPA Exempts Plants From Clean-Air Rule
"The Bush administration on Wednesday exempted thousands of older power plants, refineries and factories from having to install costly clean air controls when they modernize with new equipment that improves efficiency but increases pollution." ~snip

"They can do so even if the upgrades increase pollution, with no apparent restrictions on time intervals between modernization, though Horinko and other top EPA officials insist the plants still must comply with overall permit limits and other state and federal programs for pollutants." ~snip

More bad news. Too much for one day.

1. This was predicted.
Now, it has happened; and it's up to those who oppose Dubya's gang of thugs to try to make something out of it.

2. How can something so anti-environment be called a 'plant'?
A plant is a natural thing....something that grows and produces a benefit to the universe...to call some corporate large building structure a 'plant' is an insult to the planet!

6. All the old steel plants in NW Indiana and So. Chicago
are likely to be big beneficiaries of this bill. The grey smog wrapped around Gary, Indiana will soon cover all cities around Lake Michigan.

I hate how the neocons have taken over the EPA!

7. As I Understand The Bill
From hearing a few, scant details on NPR this afternoon....

The power generating utilities are entitled to invest up to 20% of their current value in plant upgrades without touching or including anything related to EPA controls.

Try explaning that to our ex-friends in Europe and Australia....
