Chiluba corruption case cut back
BBC News snip

Chiluba was Zambia's president for 10 years

Zambia's former President Frederick Chiluba has had more than 80 charges of corruption dropped, along with a claim he had stolen $40m.
But just a few hours later, Mr Chiluba was re-arrested on six new charges, over the alleged theft of $500,000.

Zambian prosecutors said they wanted to streamline the case, but Mr Chiluba's spokesman said it was an abuse of the judicial process. He denies all the charges, saying they are politically motivated.

Mr Chiluba's long-running trials - two are running concurrently - have suffered from continued procedural problems and has been adjourned on numerous occasions.

His spokesman Emmanuel Mwaba told the BBC's Network Africa programme that Mr Chiluba was looking forward to going to court after having the accusations hanging over him for two years.
