Iraq war was right, defiant Bush tells UN
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2004/09/21/ubush.xml&sSheet=/portal/2004/09/21/ixportaltop.html

President George W Bush has defended his decision to invade Iraq in a speech to the United Nations.

He told the UN general assembly that Saddam Hussein was an "outlaw dictator" and urged the international comunity to turn its attention to the fighting the war on terrorism and humanitarian concerns.

Citing recent terrorist acts, including scores of children killed in the Beslan school siege, Mr Bush told leaders that terrorists believe that "suicide and murder are justified ... and they act on their beliefs."

<snip>

Mr Annan continued his attack on countries taking unilateral action this afternoon by telling the general assembly that "the rule of law" is at risk around the world.

"No one is above the law," he said. "Again and again, we see fundamental laws shamelessly disregarded - those that ordain respect for innocent life, for civilians, for the vulnerable - especially children."

Tell the U.N. off! Show them who's boss. Oh this is a great day for Freepers, nose breathing wingers, tough Hummer drivers and assorted nut jobs. The base and simpletons love it when Bush takes them to task even if he is so wrong he smells like month old milk.

7. this related article validates your statement

excerpt:

Election effect

President Bush was among the early speakers at the two-week debate of the 191 member countries.

Correspondents say that everything the president says before the 2 November poll is being carefully honed to increase his chances of impressing US voters.

"War on terror and humanitarian concerns". Yep, I think that sums up Shrubco policies pretty well, 2 wars in 1.

8. Bu$h is an outlaw dictator. He's so completely FOS.
He steals an election, illegally assumes control of the United States, and then makes the personal decision to invade a sovereign country that is not a threat to the US.

Does he want to talk about dead children? How many innocent children have been killed, burned, maimed, blinded and had limbs amputated among the tens of thousands of innocent people that have been killed and wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Bu$h is a psycho fascist dictator and I'm really glad Kofi Annan is reaming him a new one.

9. I just knew this article wouldn't be in the US media
The NYT, WaPo or even the Boston Globe would never label Bush as defiant. Surprising that Annan is taking such a harsh stance against Bush.

25. US media is calling it a vigorous defense not Bush being defiant
Never fails, our media would never let a negative term such as defiant be attached to their beloved Bush.

10. I noted the very "cool" reception.
Bush did nothing different,...same ole' broken record.

What was really awful, however, is how so much of what he said against "terrorists" and "terrorism",...could have been used to describe his administration.

Force him to sit down and comment on the entire 2 hours of Colin Powell's power-point presentation of WMDs to the UN.

Point out that it wasn't until the last paragraph before CP mentioned Human Rights issues . . .

Honest! Right here in his speech.

http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2004/09/20040921-3.html

"... The defeat of terror, the protection of human rights, the spread of prosperity, the advance of democracy -- these causes, these ideals, call us to great work in the world. Each of us alone can only do so much. Together, we can accomplish so much more."

Obviously he;s talking about regime change in Washington, DC.

26. Day of Peace
Ironically President Bush went to speak to the UN general assembly on the day that the UN had designated with a previous resolution as a 'Day of Peace'. Did anyone even mention the goal of peace? Did the president perhaps think of having a moment of silence for all of the people killed in wars and atrocities over the past few years? I am truly embarrassed to be represented by this president.

29. The photograph of him in the article makes me sick!

He looks like the boy king on his throne with that evil little smirk on his face.

I really feel like I am losing touch w/ reality, as I cannot believe the world we live in. I hate to sound cliche, but it is truly Kafkaesque.

Anyone else feel that way?

32. I can't stand it
I have never been so full of total disgust for this arrogant asshole. I agree, I feel like this is a nightmare! What's happened to our country? My God, how has this happened? When will people wake up? I have become obsessed with getting this asshole out of office. It's scaring the hell out of me that this country has deteriorated so bad in 3 1/2 years. If someone would have told me 4 years ago that we would be in this ungodly mess, I never would have believed it.
