1. Possibly a misstatement but ABC WNT said 177th last night

I guess if they can't keep the shock away from the American people by using the "since May 1st" number (some mention that it was W who determined and announced that the end of major combat was over, some don't) well if they can't do that they just lie. Again it could have just been a misstatement.

Roadside Bomb Kills U.S. Soldier in Iraq

BAGHDAD, Iraq - A U.S. soldier was killed Tuesday after a support convoy was hit with a roadside bomb in the town of Hamariyah, the military announced, bringing the death toll since the end of major bombat to one more than the number of soldiers who died during the war. snip

Since the war began on March 20, 277 U.S. forces have died. Since May 1, 66 soldiers have died in combat.
