Volunteers read 3,000 names of Iraq war dead in New York graveyard
Thursday, September 2, 2004 at 14:34 JST
NEW YORK — A group of American volunteers has begun a four-day project entitled "Iraq: Naming the Dead" in a New York graveyard to honor the victims of the Iraq war by reading out the names and ages of nearly 3,000 people who have died since the war began in March last year.

Linda Hoaglund, who has done translations for more than 100 Japanese films, including those of Akira Kurosawa and Hayao Miyazaki, on Tuesday read the names of two Japanese journalists killed in Iraq earlier this year — Shinsuke Hashida, 61, and his nephew Kotaro Ogawa, 33. (Kyodo News)

Isn't it a shame that this is only being reported in the Japan press? Other than a small article a couple of days ago, there has not been even a brief whisper of this project in the US media

1. This is incredible, and long overdue
It is bad enough that our war dead receive so little. Others get nothing. Thanks so much for posting this.:-(
