Paranoia stalks Bush rally : "swarms of mice" to be released???
Gary Younge in New York
Saturday August 28, 2004
The Guardian

Snip:
Never mind the police searches, traffic jams, low-flying helicopters and closed bridges. This week New York's biggest challenge seems to be hysteria.

Delegates to the Republican convention, which begins in Madison Square Garden on Monday, will face opponents releasing swarms of mice, posing as volunteers to send old ladies in the wrong direction and hiring sex workers with Aids to seduce them, according to a columnist on the New Hampshire Sunday News, Bernadette Malone.

Meanwhile Rupert Murdoch's New York Post is warning that "people trained in kidnapping techniques, bombmaking and improvised munitions" will orchestrate operations.

It adds: "A number of extremists with ties to the 1970s radical Weather Underground are preparing to wreak havoc."

3. um...it's a METAPHOR
The Mouse Bloc will feature people DRESSED AS MICE performing direct actions/civil disobedience. Not real live mice. Sheesh. And prostitutes with AIDS? This is, like, such classic Republican Paranoia about New York. Well, they shouldn't have come here in the first place.

17. It's preemptive propaganda, pure and simple.

As usual, they're using the RW media to preemptively attach "sinister" interpretations to anti-RW protests. Their goals are : (1) to blur the message and (2) to demonize the participants as "dangerous radicals".

4. Are we sure the AIDS story isn't being put out by their wives?
Because it must have been damned annoying to hear on TV that sex workers from all over the country were being flown in for the convention.

Family values and all that.

5. It seems to me . . .
. . . it should be rats. Lots and lots of rats. But maybe that wouldn't work. The convention center will already be full of them.

13. Too late
they were released in NYC over 200 years ago.

They're everywhere and some of them are the size of cats. I even saw one is a restaurant window once. You can be sure I would never eat there again.

16. I've had many late night rat encounters
It wouldn't be a true New York experience without having a good rat encounter.

6. How silly. Pigeons would be much more effective
Edited on Sat Aug-28-04 10:47 AM by Warpy
Rounding up 500 or so and releasing them inside MSG where they would fly up to the rafters and rain pigeon poop on all the overdressed RNC drones! Think of it!

Yes, I have a mean mind. It's probably a good thing that I'm stuck nearly 3000 miles away.

Mice are too easy to ignore.

7. Swarms of mice will frighten the elephants
and the stampede will kill countess innocent NYkers as the Republicans wave their arms frantically from up in the gondola.
Of course, the pubs will escape just fine, but will have to pay littering fines that will be deemed a 'taking.'

12. The irrational fears of the rethugs
are their weakest link. The worst of them believe they will be somehow "infected" (by gayness or aids) by being anywhere near gays or that they could renounce their "faith" by being near an atheist. Releasing a few hamsters into the RNC hall could send the rubes into a near panic! Would be cruel to the hamsters though.

14. hiring sex workers with Aids to seduce them
So I guess hiring sex workers that can pass an aids test is helpful to the RNC? How many little old ladies will be at the convention? And as far as the Weathermen go, well hell, David Letterman was a weatherman in the 70's in Indianapolis and since I was there at the time I can attest to the havoc his forecasts would wreak on the city. DO NOT BELIEVE IT, it does rain in Indianapolis in the summertime, it is just David would never predict it.
