WKOW TV.. McCain and other campaign finance supporters are asking a federal court to deny a challenge by Wisconsin Right to Life.
The anti-abortion group asked the court last month to issue an injunction barring the Federal Election Commission from enforcing a provision of the law. The provision prohibits interest groups from running corporate-funded radio and T-V ads that mention a candidate's name in the final days of an election. Wisconsin Right to Life wants to run commercials asking people to call Senators Feingold and Kohl and urge them to oppose filibusters of President Bush's judicial nominees. Because Feingold is running for re-election this year, the group is barred from mentioning his name. McCain and other campaign finance sponsors noted in a court brief that the Supreme Court has already upheld the law.
