Gunman, Woman Dead in Ohio Plant Shooting
ANDOVER, Ohio - An employee armed with four handguns opened fire at an auto supplies plant Tuesday, killing a woman and wounding two others before he was killed, authorities said.

The shootings happened after 8 a.m. at Andover Industries in the northeast Ohio village, Ashtabula County Sheriff Bill Johnson said. The gunman, who worked at the plant for about five years, had reported to work in the production area, then said he was having medical problems, Johnson said.

"It appears he came into work this morning and said he had to leave to see a doctor because he had some sort of a leg or foot problem," Johnson said.

The man, who was in his 30s, returned a short time later with the guns, including a 10 mm revolver, police said.

1. Guns...a big reason why I don't choose to live in the US
and only visit on emergencies.

2. "But guns make America free and safe." What a lie!
We lose far more Americans to this domestic terrorism from the NaziRepublicanrifleAssn than Al Queda could possibly do. We have vastly more people in jail than any other "advanced" nation, are almost the only advanced nation with the death penalty and yet has the most murder of any "advanced" nation. If only the gun whores would take responsiblity for their deadly tools.

3. I read this shocking number : Elevators kill 17,100 people/year
So they're worse than guns.

I am quite happy to live in a nation with Gun Conrol though.

4. Injure 17,100...kill 30...
Elevators and escalators kill about 30 and injure about 17,100 people each year in the United States, according to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Consumer Product Safety Commission

9. Oh, not this old myth again
If you buy a defective gun and are injured by it, you can still sue the gun industry for damages even with this new law in place. It in no way limits their liability against individuals who purchase improperly functioning firearms. It ONLY pertains to lawsuits placing blame on gun manufacturers when their guns are used in criminal acts. To date, very few (if any) of these lawsuits have been successful anyways. Haven't you been called on this lie several times in the past here on DU?

BTW, nice unbiased links there. I could put some nice, unbiased links from the NRA here, but I don't.

11. IIRC it's not the guns. It's the general level of violence that is higher
here than in any other industrialized nation. Significantly higher.

12. If the general level of violence is higher,
why arm violent people with weapons that create more violence?

The US has the highest incident of gun deaths in the world, with the highest number of guns per capita. I believe there is a correlation. I don't argue it anymore, however, as I have chosen not to live in such a violent society. Let the rest of America shoot it out at the OK Coral.

7. How about looking at this guy's mentality?
It was on the evening news that he just found out he had cancer and was facing the loss of his leg to remove the tumor. He killed himself and another because he was afraid of losing his leg! I know that would be a scary situation to be in, but was it worse than dying with a murder on your head? Damn.

8. More guns? Less guns? More guns? Less guns?
"But if his co-workers had been armed, they could have killed him before he shot anybody!"

"But if he hadn't been armed, nobody would have got shot!"

and so forth for the rest of the day....

Ohio gunman was denied vacation, had cancer

ANDOVER, Ohio (AP) - A factory worker who was denied vacation because he filled out a form improperly and had just learned he had cancer opened fire inside the plant Tuesday, killing himself and an office worker. Two other workers were wounded.

The gunman's mother said her son, Ricky Shadle, 32, got upset when he was denied a two-week vacation in July because he made a mistake in filling out his request for time off.

Rosalie Shadle said her son had a learning disability and always needed help filling out forms at the plant. She said her son took the time off and did not know he was denied the vacation until a boss threatened to fire him if he did not come back to work.

"He was so mad," said his mother. "He didn't know he wasn't getting a vacation." (snip.....)
