Kerry Gets Warm Reception From NAACP
Campaign Also Alters Ads Based on Criticism From Congressional Black Caucus

PHILADELPHIA, July 15 -- Sen. John F. Kerry had a simple message for the NAACP's annual convention Thursday. I'm here. He's not.

Unlike President Bush, who had cited a scheduling conflict in declining an invitation to speak at the gathering this week, the Massachusetts Democrat said he "will be a president who is truly a uniter, not one who seeks to divide the nation by race or riches or by any other label."

"I understand you've been having trouble getting some speakers," Kerry joked at the outset of a 50-minute speech that touched on a range of issues deemed important to the black community, such as the conflict in the Sudan and the disputed 2000 presidential election, which Kerry called the most tainted in history. "The president may be too busy to speak to you now," he said. "He'll have plenty of time after November 2."

(snip)

Kerry was warmly received by the few thousand delegates from across the country who chanted his name as he walked on stage. Some shouted words of encouragement from their seats or sprung to their feet to urge him on.

"There's a lot of love in this room, I'm telling you," Kerry responded to a man who shouted his affections. "I want to turn this love into votes. I want to turn this love into action. I want to turn this love into change."

1. Right on
Bush can't even say the word "love" without having to bomb another country just so we won't think he's a pussy. Reason number 8,534,232 to hate his ass.

3. Good article
Further down it gives the details about his willingness to change some ads that the Congressional Black Caucus had criticized after reviewing them for him. A man who listens. Gotta love him.

7. This is a good start
From the Palm Beach Post
Denying felons the right to vote, a Civil War-era policy that critics say is rooted in Florida's racist past, could cost taxpayers millions of dollars, especially following a court ruling Wednesday that has civil rights groups cheering.

The First District Court of Appeal in Tallahassee ruled unanimously that the Florida Department of Corrections was not complying with a law that requires the state to help felons get their civil rights restored when they are about to leave prison.

8. I wish Kerry would stop calling * "the President"
Kerry should refer to * as "George Bush" and stop referring to him as President, for obvious reasons. He should also stop saying "I believe this nation needs a President who ..." and start saying "I will be a President who ...".

Enough of this belief crap ... let's get real here.

Time for bed.

9. Yep.
Undermine the little weasel by not using his title.
I swore I'd never use the "P" word before the "B" word when referring to El Chimpo, and in almost 4 years I haven't once. My kids are always trying to trick me into saying it but I think they are kind of proud I've held out. I refuse to address him with a title he
didn't earn - especially one that means so much.

11. Same here
I reserve the title President for someone who has been Elected not Selected. I have NEVER once in the 3 and a half years chimp has squatted in the Whitehouse referred to him as "President". Kerry should always refer to him as Mr. Bush.

10. No matter how they slice it, chimp loses on this one
Makes him look like a coward, that he is afraid to face those people. Julian Bond is a respected dignified guy, chimp's propaganda machine is making it out that they are irrational in their hatred of the chimp. This makes it clear that chimp can attend anything but right wing nut gatherings.

12. We are in this together
The GOP tries to keep various groups hating each other whereas the democrats work to keep us all together.
