White House enlists religious groups in anti-drug efforts
WASHINGTON (AP)

The Bush administration is enlisting church-based youth groups in its anti-drug programs, the latest effort to expand the role of religious organizations in government services.

The Office of National Drug Control Policy on Thursday began offering guides, brochures and Web sites to help leaders of religious youth groups teach their members to avoid marijuana and other drugs. ---

Critics of the administration's religious initiatives said spiritual groups already are fighting drug use among their members, and don't need the federal government to get involved.

"It's another example of how the Bush administration is obsessed with finding a faith- based solution to every social and medical problem," said Barry W. Lynn, executive director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, a watchdog group.

"Most of the denominations have anti-drug programs. Many combine good science with their own personal religious message, but they do so without federal funds, and that's how it ought to be." ---

"What? You got the heroin heebie-jeebies? Say some Hail Marys"

Like the rticle said, most faith-based anti-drug programs(AA and NA) do just as well without Bush's filthy stolen money.

3. cut funds to government programs
and give money to faith based indoctrination. Science will never be the same when faith based teachers present evolution ala autogeddon.

4. Nice one, Norm...
I always liked the way he sincerely proclaimed that accepting the god-guy was the only thing that saved him from his raging dipsomania, yet he guarantees that there will be no religion foisted off on the unfortunate by the faith-based entities administering the help...

Tilt tilt tilt.

In a way, it does sort of smack of Junior's aid theories: we'll help, but only after leaching out the properties that are actually effective from the process. Sure, you can have education reform, but we're not going to fund it...

5. Yes and it worked so well before. Right?
The reason the federal gov. took over so much is because people in this rich country were going with out food and education. Some states did not care and I guess churches didnot care either as they were not Helping. In the 60's in SC you had to pay for each child in school. Not to hard for white people but hard if you were black and made ^600 a year. Those children would take turns going. You had to buy your books.I once made this reply as the Southern laugh about it. 'Well you will just have to educate them in the next generation, if not now" But they never could see my NE wit and my husband used to say 'shut up'I made a very bad southern and did not last long in the South.

Maybe because he was unhappy, 'eh?

This is so bogus I don't know where to start!

Where there is dope there is hope.

9. Hugs not drugs.
That's all these drug abusers need. See a junkie and give him/her a big hug and tell them Jesus loves you.
