U.S. to Give Saddam to Iraqis Within Two Weeks -Allawi
Former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein (news - web sites) will be given to the new Iraqi government for trial within two weeks, Prime Minister Iyad Allawi said on Monday.

"Saddam and the others will be handed over to the Iraqis, to the government," he said in comments to Arab satellite channel Al Jazeera. The trials would start "as soon as possible."

"All the current detainees, without exception, will be handed over to the Iraqi authority. The handover will take place within the next two weeks," he said.

2. I wonder if he'll be "shot trying to escape."
I mean they're using all kinds of other vintage excuses for the goings on that are going on.

3. This I gotta see.
Sorry, but I just cannot envision Dubya letting go of his "prize". Look for excuses to delay giving over any detainees.

4. This story seems to contradict itself.
First we get:

"All the current detainees, without exception, will be handed over to the Iraqi authority. The handover will take place within the next two weeks," (Allawi)said.

Then we get:

The United States has agreed to turn Saddam and other indicted officials in its custody to the Iraqis for trial once a sovereign government sets up a special tribunal capable of conducting a fair trial after June 30.

Plus one unanswered question: officials indicted by whom?
