Md. governor's membership at posh golf club scrutinized
Perk is a gift from corporate elite

Associated Press
08/11/2003

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Gov. Robert Ehrlich has canceled the lease on the state jet and hung a "for sale" sign on the state yacht since his inauguration.

But he has embraced another perk: membership in a posh golf club created by and for Baltimore's corporate elite.

Caves Valley Golf Club in northwest Baltimore County ranks among the premier courses in the nation. It accepts members by invitation only and charges initiation fees of up to $125,000, plus $8,000 in annual dues, according to published reports.

For Ehrlich, membership at Caves Valley is free, a gift to the governor's office from the powerful group of executives who opened the club in 1991.

1. Friendly media warning from Rove to back the rigged machines.
Coincidence? I think not.

2. Did Glendening and Schaffer have memberships?
If they did I don't see the big issue. Now if this club excludes blacks or women then I would see a problem.

3. From the article
Former Maryland governors William Donald Schaefer and Parris Glendening, both Democrats, were also granted honorary club memberships, according to Ehrlich spokesman Paul Schurick.

However, neither played golf. So Ehrlich appears to be the first governor to play Caves Valley -- one of the richest benefits to come with the job since the governor's mansion was built.

I suppose in a politicians lifetime they are offered plenty of freebies, including memberships in swank golf courses. Seems Eldrich was the only one to take him up on the offer -I suppose so he can hobnob with the corporate elite, which is who this golf course is created for.

4. Ok
So then the next question is whether they excluded minorities and women from the club? Now if that is indeed true then this is an issue.

5. All I know is it's an exclusive club for corporations
and they provided the membership for him.

We can work it from there!
