(TX) Judge ends parental rights of death row inmate

The parental rights of a female death row inmate convicted of the 1998 killing of her newborn son were terminated by a judge today.
Kenisha Berry, 26, has four other children. The three girls and one boy will be placed with relatives in Beaumont.

State District Judge Tom Mulvaney also terminated the parental rights of Joskin Dewayne Love, the father of the three oldest children. The youngest child, a girl who marked her first birthday Sunday, will be allowed supervised visits with her father, Leonard Wayne Carrier.

A police investigation into the abandonment of the youngest child in a ditch last summer led police to Berry, who they later charged with capital murder in the death of her newborn son. His body was found in a trash bin near an apartment complex in 1998 but police had few leads in the case until they found the abandoned girl last June.

Berry was asked to submit a DNA sample following the girl's abandonment. Analysis determined Berry was the boy's mother and FBI analysis of the duct tape used to cover his mouth and secure his arms turned up a fingerprint that matched Berry's left index finger, police said. Berry was convictd in February.
