Rumsfeld Says War on Terror Will Continue for Years (Update1)
U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, in Singapore for a conference with Iraq war allies such as the U.K., Australia and Japan, said the war on terrorism is closer to the beginning than the end.
<snip>

While U.S. military alliances with Southeast Asian countries are strong and the country is committed to its presence in Asia, no area in the world is immune from terrorist attacks, he said. Future threats to the U.S. and other countries will come from small cells and not great powers.
<snip>

Defense ministers of U.S. allies at the three-day conference by the International Institute for Strategic Studies include Australia's Robert Hill, Shigeru Ishiba from Japan and the U.K.'s Adam Ingram. Rumsfeld also met Singapore Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong and Defense Minister Teo Chee Hean. The city-state supported the Iraq war.
<snip>

There are 18,000 potential terrorists at large, and recruitment by groups is accelerating because of the U.S.-led war in Iraq, the International Institute for Strategic Studies said on May 25 in its annual survey.

1. I was wondering where Rummy was.
I wish one of these countries would keep him.

2. Although Donald is almost 72, his milky eyes
get an unusual glitter in them when he talks about more "terrorists", more warfare, more Beginning than End. Meaning, we've got many, MANY years of fighting ahead of us, folks.

Of course, it will cost quite a bit. And most certainly, defense contractors will make many trillions. Private contractors will make the same. And I, Donald Rumsfeld, will be there personally to oversee this mighty machine, for many decades to come.

Amen.

3. Thanks to Rummy and like minded Neo-cons this is likely to be true.
He and his cohorts chose to disregard the advise of high ranking Military and Intelligence personnel. Our Nation and the World will have to live with these incredibly foolish decisions. ...Oscar

4. And now for a few seconds of sanity.
John Kerry not so long ago questioned whether the "war" on terror is actually a war at all. "I don't want to use that terminology," he said. In his view, what we are engaged in is "not primarily a military operation. It's an intelligence-gathering operation, law enforcement, public diplomacy effort." - John Kerry

5. Have fun, I'm not participating
Someone attacks me, I'll send them to the cemetary, but somehow I get the feeling that this crowd's idea of a war on terrorism is preemptive strikes and illegal occupations of nations that represent no threat to the US.
