U.S. has so far provided $191 billion for wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, defense at home

ALAN FRAM, Associated Press Writer
Wednesday, May 26, 2004

(05-26) 16:32 PDT WASHINGTON (AP) --

President Bush and Congress have so far provided $191 billion for wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and defensive military operations at home, and about two-thirds of the money has been spent or is owed, White House figures show.

The numbers show that since the Sept. 11 attacks, lawmakers have provided $61 billion for U.S. military and reconstruction activity in Afghanistan, $119 billion for operations in Iraq, $10 billion for domestic military steps and $1 billion for other expenses such as rebuilding the damaged Pentagon.

Congress has enacted at least five bills providing money for the wars, covering the 2001 through 2004 government budget years. At each step, figures on the expenditures have been reported.

2. Plus what has been given back to the wealthy, plus the cost of Medicare
plus the lost of jobs, plus the revenue lost because of off shore banking by big corporations.

It is amazing that junior is in still office.

4. NT times columnist David Brooks says "Bush betting presidency on
Iraqis wanting democracy." The possible tens of thousands of deaths, probably more maimings than that, and most of that $191 billion are but such small prices to pay for bringing democracy, Bush-style, to the Iraqi people. I'm overwhelmed with his magnanimity and generosity of spirit, his willingness to risk losing the election in November just so Iraqis will have democracy which has, in much-too-large-part, been scrapped for the home folks.

7. since there's so much money to be had
from the pockets of the out of work taxpayers - this makes so much sense - NOT!

The estimated population of the United States is 294,151,412
so each citizen's share of this debt is $24,470.44.

The National Debt has continued to increase an average of $1.73 billion per day since September 30, 2003

8. What do we get: NO OBL and CONSTANT terror threats.
We also get to watch our money flow to GOP corporations and mercenaries and oil companies.

No advances on FEELING secure.

Lots of lives lost or permanently damaged.

Lots of advances in creating a world that HATES us.

No help to Americans without work or health care.

Very little expansion, if any, of first responders.

More poverty, homelessness, bankruptcy, unemployment.

Now, what do you think about that kind of investment?

9. Well, at least Halliburton delivered a hell of a lot of 'sailboat' fuel to
Iraq. That ought to help a lot.

Wonder what the total cost of that little scam was.

10. And that's just the down payment, folks.
We've been there just a little over 1 year. And what did Dick Cheney said this week, "we could be over there our entire lifetimes". (help me out here). Or did he say the next 20 years?

Either way, we are looking at a bankrupt Empire. A gutted country, not able to take care of its own citizens, because its leaders were possessed by the insane idea of ruling the entire Middle East and extracting its resources.

We will not be the first country to meet with such a fate.
