Hastert questions McCain's GOP credentials
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- In a rare public swipe at a fellow Republican, House Speaker Dennis Hastert on Wednesday questioned the GOP credentials of John McCain, a U.S. senator who has often challenged party orthodoxy.

Talking to reporters, Hastert pretended not to know who McCain was when asked about a recent statement by the GOP senator from Arizona.

As other House GOP members stood behind him laughing, Hastert, R-Illinois, then expressed doubt that McCain was indeed a Republican.

The exchange started when a reporter asked: "Can I combine a two issues, Iraq and taxes? I heard a speech from John McCain the other day..."

Hastert: "Who?"

After that, Hastert told the reporter how John McCain could learn about sacrifice, by going to Walter Reed Medical Center.

Chickenhawks are such idiots.

1. Let's fan this flame. McCain has best creds with Independent voters.
The media also likes McCain more than most politicians. If they perceive the GOPers attacking him, maybe they'll turn on the GOPers.

2. bring it on, Hastert
with your moronic comments, you'll drive McCain out of the repug senate caucus (remember Jeffords?). Yeah, that McCain is *such* a dangerous liberal, the repugs are better off without him.

"the reporters heard Hastert muttering 'mit uns oder gegen uns' after insulting the ex-Vietname POW"

5. Yeah. And he came off as the total extremist asshole that he is.
I hope the media plays his viciousness over and over and over again because this kind of extremist bullshit WILL wake up decent Americans.

6. It just shows how the whole point McCain was trying to make flew
straight over his head. Of course, McCain knows of the sacrifice by the wounded soldiers. His whole point was that they should not be the only ones asked to sacrifice.

Put it all on the credit card, Denny. It is going to be so easy to pay off these bills once the baby boomers start retiring.

What a moran - questioning someone like John McCain. I realize he's a Republican, but McCain is one Republican whose word I could trust.

10. I just emailed Senator McCain
http://mccain.senate.gov/index.cfm?fuseaction=Contact.Home

I worked on his campaign in 99' when i lived in Texas and i will never forget what was done to him, left, right or center it should outrage everybody. Dennis Hastert is doing the bidding of Bushco, just like when Hastert said no to extending the 911 commission it gave Bush his out "Denny says no, what can i do". This is pure bullshit and signs that the gop want McCain out because he's not willing to drink the kool-aid. We havent heard the last of this yet.
