Kerry Campaign Response to New Laura Bush Ad

2 hours, 56 minutes ago

WASHINGTON, May 12 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Kerry campaign spokesperson Chad Clanton issued the following statement today in response to the new ad out today from the Bush campaign:

"The fact is, George W. Bush has broken his promise to give teachers and parents the tools they need to provide a first-rate education. He promised to fund 'No Child Left Behind' and then stubbornly refused to fully fund it. Reform without resources is no reform at all. As president, John Kerry will make investments in our schools, raise teacher pay and improve teacher standards so that our students have a great teacher in every classroom."

--

THE FACTS:

The President Has Repeatedly Broken His Promise to Provide Federal Support for Education. Bush's new budget proposes $24.9 billion for Elementary and Secondary Education Act programs, $9.4 billion less than was authorized under Bush's No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act. Bush's last four budgets have cumulatively provided $33.2 billion less than what was pledged under NCLB. Even with the additional funds that Congress appropriated over Bush's budgets, American schools have received $17.2 billion less than what they were promised over the past three years. 9. Especially if the media picks up on it.
Otherwise Kerry might as well be pissin' in the wind.

Of course the media is always quick and uncritical when picking up Republican talking points.

3. Love that factcheck.org
it calls it like it sees it...and has had to call "foul" to almost every one of Smirk's ads.

6. It's Unfair Of Me To Pick On Someone's Looks...
... but isn't it odd how her uneven quirky eyes make her appear robotic?

16. In THAT case, no link needed!
It's been obvious for years that there's nothing too vile- or erroneous- for Coulter to spew-- she's even more disgusting than Rightwing Sewermouth Harpy v1.0, Luciferanne.

Just woulda been surprised to hear/read it from Pickles...

Oh, and welcome to DU!

5. I am a teacher
and am insulted that she says she knows what it's like to teach. She taught for what a year or two and then became a librarian? Then she quit! That's not teaching. We call that dabbling in education. Real teachers stick it out!!

18. The pickles ad itself is so lame it causes harm to * all by itself.
Not to mention the fact that every teacher and parent in the country hates this legislation. Another misstep by Rove. I wonder if anyone will ever hire him after this debacle?

19. NCLBA was bogus from the beginning
Perhaps the only redeeming quality of the Bush Administration is that they didn't bother wasting billions of dollars on this complete and utter sham.

What's the main feature of the No Child Left Behind Act? Testing. Lost of testing. Then more testing.

An obsessive-compulsive regime of proficiency testing is not a substitute for real reform of our educational system. If I step on the bathroom scale every morning, will that cause me to lose weight? If you test my kids annually, quarterly or monthly, will they become better-educated?

NCLBA needs to be trashed completely, to be replace by a plan that will actually improve student performance.
