A time of attack (new documented info)
http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5744,9368754%255E28737,00.html

FIVE hours after Donald Rumsfeld felt a thump in his Pentagon office, raced outside and saw that a plane had exploded into the building, the US Defence Secretary was already considering whether the US should attack Iraq.

According to a note scribbled by an aide at about 2.40pm on September 11, 2001, Rumsfeld mused whether the US should "hit S.H. @ same time - not only UBL ". Instead, George W. Bush ruled that Afghanistan, the Taliban and al-Qa'ida were the first targets - but kept open the option of Iraq and removing its dictator, Saddam Hussein, for another day.

According to a new book by renowned Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward - which includes that cryptic note - the day came on November 21, 2001, when Bush hauled Rumsfeld into a White House cubbyhole and told him to secretly draw up a new war plan for Iraq.

The rest is mostly out there - but the "scribbled note" was new info to me (at least).

1. And Woodward is trying to say Rumsfeld was holding back on the war..

Hence why I tend to believe that Woodward is full of shit.

3. Isn't Woodward simply repeating what he has been told?
That's why his book seems to make little sense, misadmin members are all telling different stories.

7. Woodward is" full of shit."?
He scored on the Nixon scandal, didn't he? He is primarily an investigater, reports the answers he has gotten to questions and through interviews and does not give conclusive opinions. Take it or leave it. As for Rumsfeld, the guy doesn't know what he will be saying from one day to the next, let alone what he is really thinking. He gives the distinct impression that he is adlibing his role in this farce and has given very little indepth thought to the process as Sec. of Defense. He might win a game of checkers but never a game of chess.

2. From GD

"Why should we hear about body bags and deaths and how many, what day it's going to happen, and how many this or what do you suppose? Oh, I mean, it's, not relevant. So why should I waste my beautiful mind on something like that?"

Former first lady, Barbara Pierce Bush. to Diane Sawyer in april 2003

5. I guess that Barbara Bush is Wimpy's mentor for the empathy that
he seems not to have. What a quote!

6. The juxtaposition ....
...of the picture and the quote is devastating. You should drop the GWB overlay and just let the somber juxtaposition speak for itself. It reveals a depth of cold indifference the likes I hope to seldom encounter. Chilling.
