Lawmakers Say Session Will Focus on Jobs and Economy
Source: KCRG

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Lawmakers say they expect the upcoming legislative session to deal primarily with issues surrounding jobs and the economy.

Those topics were key to a special election campaign Tuesday for an eastern Iowa Senate seat, won by Democrat Liz Mathis.

Her victory left Democrats with a narrow majority in the Senate.

Both Democrats and Republicans say they expect pocketbook issues to be the dominant theme of the session that begins Jan. 9.

While I'm sure that Democrats would love to focus on important issues, I don't think Republicans will be able to keep from indulging their right wing urges once the session actually begins.

2. Watch out. Here in Wisconsin Governor Koch, er, Walker called a "special jobs session"...
... they made sex education in schools "abstinence only" with mention of contraception forbidden.

... they honored the "pregnancy crisis centers" that provide desperate, pregnant women with an anti-abortion speech in lieu of healthcare.

... they recognized "National Adoption Month".

... they spent a long time debating the definition of a bicycle.

Not a whisper about jobs, but then we have the R's in charge. Hopefully Iowa will do better.

4. I'd like less news on what they say, more on what they DO –-
"Dems" included.

5. more on what they DO
Exactly, what do Repugs actually DO?

Could the reason we hear nothing about them doing anything.... be obvious?

6. I thought this was about US Congress...oh, but good on Iowa.
They're going to do more than what the obstructionist make-Obama-a-one-term-President Boehner & Co. are doing.

8. they've been saying that for what, 10 years now?
Pigs will fly before we see TRUE work on issues that help the 99%. Most in Congress are the 1%, or 1% wannabees -- they have no interest in working for us.

Time to tent the place and spray for critters.
