(Reuters) - An explosion outside government buildings in Mogadishu Tuesday killed at least 65 people and wounded 50, the coordinator of the capital's ambulance service said.

"We have carried 65 dead bodies and 50 injured people," Ali Muse told Reuters. "Some are still lying there. Most of the people have burns."

He said students, soldiers and civilians were among the dead.

Somalia: Huge suicide blast kills many in Mogadishu

At least 55 people have been killed by a huge suspected suicide blast near government buildings in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, say officials.

Eyewitnesses said a truck carrying explosives was driven into a gate near a government ministry and detonated.

Sheikh Ali Mohamed Rage, a spokesman for the Islamist militant group al-Shabab, told the BBC it had carried out the attack.

A BBC correspondent at the ministry said there were bodies on the ground. He said it was the worst incident he had ever experienced.

3. there's not really any government in Somalia to speak of, is there?
In other words, it is the Republican idea of Utopia.

Rescue official: Truck bomb in Somalia kills 70

By Abdi Guled-Associated Press Tuesday, October 4, 2011

MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) — Islamist militants detonated a truck bomb Tuesday in front of the education ministry in Somalia’s capital, killing at least 70 people and wounding dozens including students and parents who were awaiting the results of scholarships.

It was the biggest attack in Somalia’s capital since the al Qaeda-linked group known as al-Shabab withdrew most of its forces in August amid an offensive by African Union forces and a devastating famine.

The bomb blew up after coming to a halt at a security checkpoint, leaving blackened corpses on the debris-strewn street and setting other vehicles alight. Uniformed soldiers were seen dragging the wounded away.

6. Animals!!!
I don't know what else to call bastards who blow up young people waiting for the results of scholarships.

Whatever their cause is lost its meaning once they started blowing up civilians.

7. Just a turf war wrapped in religion, thinly wrapped at that.
Local press talking about more than 100 killed, at least as many wounded. Lots of those are going to be losing limbs, etc.

Shabaab has a history of targeting student events -- it's terrifying, for one, but also officials are bound to be there speaking, and they can get lucky. Looks like only students and parents killed this time, however.
