Vancouver police launch website to catch rioters
Source: CBC News

Vancouver police have launched a new website aimed at helping identify suspects who allegedly participated in the Stanley Cup riots in June.

"This was an extraordinary event in the history of our city, and it calls for extraordinary measures," Insp. Les Yeo said during a media briefing Tuesday morning.

"We have pictures of 40 suspects on the site. We'll be adding more than 100 photos over the next month or two."

Members of the public are encouraged to look at the pictures and submit any information that might help identify the suspects.

1. New horizons for vigilante justice
Having citizens eager to turn each other in to police is just such a fine goal for any society. It did wonders for building social cohesion in Germany in the 30s.

2. Well...

Vancouverites saw their beautiful city smashed and trashed by hoodlums. You are comparing apples to the sludge that collects on drains.

These people should be brought to justice - and in this instance, I agree with the authorities for publishing the photo's.

It is quite frankly an insult to those who died during the holocaust - that you would make such a comparison - for those germans who were targeted in the 30's did nothing wrong other than be born jewish, or of gypsy descent, or homosexual, or disagree with the current power of the nazi's.

Shame on you.

3. I think creeping fascism should always be condemned
We have laws, and we have police to investigate breeches of laws, and we have courts to try people who have been charged. That's how justice is and should be done, not by appeals to obsessed vigilantes eager to turn in others.

4. One day it's Neighborhood Watch, the next day, Hitler
One day it's Neighborhood Watch, the next day, Hitler.

A most thoughtful and in-depth bit of pot-hoc-ergo-prompter-hoc as I've seen in a week.
