UK Riots: Growing Calls For Army to be Deployed on Britain’s Streets

As Birmingham, Liverpool and Londoners wake up to scenes of devastation in their cities, there have been growing calls from celebrities, MP's and ordinary families for the army to be brought onto the streets of Britain to restore calm and order.

The leader of Croydon Council Mike Fisher has called on the government to deploy the army to the streets of Croydon after scenes of utter devastation were found in the aftermath of riots in the West Croydon area of the city.

The Croydon Council leader was speaking as he surveyed the damage in the worst affected areas of the London borough following the riots last night. The Conservative leader vowed the Council would use all resources possible to find those responsible for the trouble and bring them to justice. Mr Fisher has urged anyone with information not to hesitate passing it onto the police.

"Croydon cannot see this level of violence and disorder again - public lives are at risk. We need additional resources and that can be police if possible but if not then we should be looking at deployment of the army and other military," he said.

6. So the powers that be in the UK decide to cut out funds for youth programs

and charge more for education and the remaining youth and sports programs. Not to mention the horrible reductions in support for poverty stricken communities that started over 30 years ago. So these youths who live in impoverished ares (and have no jobs) have absolutely nothing to do all day.

I heard on the Thom Hartmann that the UK has plans to use rubber bullets on their own citizens. They have used them on the Irish but haven't used them on their own citizens for some time.

There are thousands of scummy thugs (who happen to be young) that simply want free shit. Lack of education and government programs have little to do with what is happening. Many of these children are far too young to have jobs. I'm willing to bet that many of these looters are heavily subsidized by the government with free housing and free food and supplemental wages.

As an aside point, the victims of rubber bullets in Northern Ireland were UK citizens (whether they liked it or not). So no, using rubber bullets against rioters would not be a first.

All charged to date, currently 600 or so, are being fast tracked. Highgate seems to be the Magistrate Court used. Most are charged with burlary / breaking and entering for which the maximum sentence the Magistrates can hand out is only 6 months.

So - they've been denied bail, held in custody and referred to Wood Green Crown Court who can hand out maximum sentences of 10 years.

None of the defendants appeared to be very happy.

This is not a political movement or spontaneous political uprising. They are looting shops, targeting mobile phone stores and high end brand names. They are carjacking. They are coordinating via BBM to find shops that are both unlooted and unprotected. This is about getting as much loot as possible and smashing and burning some stuff.
