Four Republican Senators Reject Boehner Plan
Edited on Tue Jul-26-11 05:52 PM by denem
Source: NY Times

As if to highlight House Speaker John Boehner’s challenge in mustering support within his own caucus, four Republican Senators have sent a letter to their colleagues in the House urging them to vote against fiscal legislation offered by Mr. Boehner.

“We write you today in strong opposition to the Debt Limit extension you will be considering in the House tomorrow,” says the letter from Senators Rand Paul of Kentucky, Jim DeMint of South Carolina, David Vitter of Louisiana, and Mike Lee of Utah.

“For many reasons, we cannot support this bill and urge you to protect the American taxpayers by strongly opposing this bill.”

The bill falls too far short of the House “Cut, Cap and Balance” act, which passed the House but was rejected by the Senate, and therefore falls short of conservative principles, the Senators argued.

3. Even better. It means that Bohener won't carry the Tea Party in the House
and cannot pass it even in the House.

The most incompetent Speaker of the House in living memory, he can't count noses in his own caucus.

4. They spoke up today
Same thing. Several political media outlets (Hill, Politico, TPM) are all reporting that he isn't even close to the votes he needs.

Even Heath Schuler has reportedly stated he will vote against it.

6. I still maintain drunk voting is to blame. One should have to blow before one votes.
