Medicare Cuts Would Hit Republican Lawmakers
Source: Bloomberg

Republican Michael Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania backed a U.S. House plan in April to privatize Medicare even though his congressional district would feel the impact more than almost anywhere else in the nation.

While the House plan was later rejected by the Senate, it may be a potent 2012 campaign issue for Democrats.

Nine of the 10 districts throughout the U.S. with the most people age 45-54 are represented by Republicans, including Fitzpatrick, a Bloomberg analysis of census data shows. Those would be among the first Americans to no longer have Medicare as an open-ended entitlement, and instead would be given money to buy private insurance when they’re eligible, under the plan.

Fitzpatrick, like the other Republicans, said he stands by his position.

On the one hand, this news article notes that a Republican is taking a position directly contrary to the interests of his constituents. On the other hand, the story portrays this as a good thing!

You have to love the corporate media narrative doing its best to prop Republicans and blame Democrats.

1. It's about goddamned time something "hit repuke lawmakers".
If voters had 1/10 the sense they should have, repuke lawmakers would never hold office in this country again.

2. Medicare is not broke yet but the federal government is not
so the thing to do is to stop all congressional health care, past, present and future.
It is time for congress to bite the bullet just like they want the rest of us to do.
They are so big on making the hard choices let's see if they have the backbone to do the right thing and give up something

3. THEY won't pay the price unless the dems step up and do something!
the dems have done nothing so far to indicate that they will stand up and defend Medicare and SS. They leave too many doors open for compromise. Perhaps Medicare could be better, but the repukes are so dishonorable, how could anyone trust them with trying to solve the problems!! Hell, they would twist and turn the legislation so horrifically, by the time the law was passed, no one would recognize it. Same for SS. We all know that a simple fix would be to extend the wage level for the withhold and problem solved. But, once again there is no honor among the thieves in the republican party and we can hardly trust the BLUE DOGS to stand with their party on this one. I wrote Gibbs, I am really disappointed in his response to the republican debate night and just don't have much faith in the president to do the right thing by the people. He caved on unemployment and extended the rich man's tax cuts, the stakes are higher with the debt ceiling issue, so how can we expect that the dems will really be successful in protecting the american people from the extremists who would do harm to the country and the middle class any chance they get??

8. The one thing...
that democrats need to keep pounding into peoples heads is. 'The Republicans are going to take away my SS and Medicare, and give it to rich people.' Its that simple.
