3. CNN...Weiner seeking treatment amid growing pressure to resign
Source: CNN

New York (CNN) -- U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner, who has been under fire after admitting to inappropriate communications with women online, has decided to seek treatment "to focus on becoming a better husband and healthier person," his spokeswoman said Saturday.

While he is seeking treatment at an undisclosed location, he will ask for a "short leave of absence" from Congress, Risa Heller said in a statement.

The decision comes as three weighty Democratic voices -- including Nancy Pelosi -- called for Weiner's resignation.

4. good move. Things move so fast in this story.
Just yesterday I read an article that said Nancy Pelosi "resists" calling for his resignation. Now I read ( a story one hour old) that she
wants him to.

He can go to "treatment" and come back new and refreshed and I hope rehabilitated in the eyes of the doubters.

7. Weiner seeks leave of absence from House
Edited on Sat Jun-11-11 03:05 PM by proud2BlibKansan
Source: AP

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Rep. Anthony Weiner is asking for a temporary leave of absence from the House while he seeks professional treatment in the wake of his Twitter scandal.

A spokeswoman for the New York Democrat says he has left for professional treatment and will focus on "becoming a better husband and healthier person."

Spokeswoman Risa Heller says Weiner wants the leave of absence so he can be evaluated and work out a course of treatment.

The statement doesn't say what Weiner would be treated for.

Edited on Sat Jun-11-11 03:51 PM by Ian David
Especially since he kept doing it after he'd been warned that people were on to it.

Besides, there are places on the internets where you can pay women to get naked and look at your penis ANONYMOUSLY.

And if you're polite and persistent, you can even convince them to put their nose in someone's mouth for free...

Time Waster: Can you get the people in the "free" live sex cams to eat one another's noses?

39. One poster got banned for calling him an idiot
Which I could never figure out. A lot of thin skins around here, I guess.

Weiner has problems, no doubt about it, but are they honestly problems that require treatment? I'm not sure his conduct was "inappropriate" at all in the larger scheme of things. His WIFE might think so, but people trade naked photos on line all the time. Hell, go over to the Reddit boards and they've got a Gonewild forum where it's encouraged.

This is obviously a face-saving move that won't require him to resign. The dems will call for it, he'll say no, but go to treatment, then he'll come back a new man, make the rounds and show his contrition and his new outlook on life and he'll be back at work.

Political theater. The script has been written.

26. Last refuge of a coward!
All of Weiner's crap got messy not so much because of what he did but in how he is trying to clean it up. He comes out looking like a liar, a manipulator, a narcissist, and a big weenie in more ways than one. This comes off as a death row conversion.

Always, always, always. Vitter didn't just not resign, he even got an official governmental resolution from congressional repigs saying they supported him.

I used to think repigs followed 99% of Big Business/Psychopath orders, while Dems were kinda better in that they only obeyed about 75% of Big Business/Psychopath orders. Now it appears the true numbers are 99.999999999% and 98%.

American Democracy - it was nice while it lasted.

...they're ALL dirt bags.

I've love the AW...and am sorely disappointed in his actions.

Now mind you, I could care about "sexting", pics and all that BUT, in his position of trust and power, no.

AW...couldn't you have just done one or all of these? Have had wild sex with your wife...Have had wild sex with your hand(s) (or any number of soft "devices" that are easily available)...or, just take'n a lot of cold showers. Any of these, your option...but not what you were up to.

I vote for the resignation.

33. All he needs to do is change the spelling and wa-la
Last name: Weiner
Recorded in many spelling forms including Vine, Vigne, Vyner (England), Lavigne, Devigne, Desvignes, Vinau, Vigne, Vignaux, Vignault, (France), Vingneri, Vignolo, Vignozzi, Vignone (Italy), Vina and Vinas (Spain & Portugal), Wein, Weine, Weins and Weiner (Germany), and many others, this surname is of Roman (Latin) origins. Deriving from the ancient word 'vinum' meaning wine, and recorded in almost every European country in its myriad localised forms, it is either a topographical name for someone who lived at vineyard, or an occupational name for a vine producer, or it derives from the popular personal name of endearment of the pre 5th century a.d.'Vinea', which actually means "sweet wine". The Romans spread the art of wine growing throughout their empire, wines being grown in England for instance, as far north as Yorkshire, and there are several places named Vineyard in the counties of Essex and Cambridgeshire, which may be sources of the later suname.

I haven't kept up with the details of this matter, but it seems the situation just gets worse and worse if the headlines are even close to being accurate..

I'm disgusted and demoralized to learn someone I had once perceived as a principled courageous progressive would be caught up in something as disgusting, degrading and degenerate as this.

And really stupid.

I'm no sexual prude either.

41. They don't think they have a problem after they're caught, either.
They just think the public is stupid enough to buy the rehab strategy. The formula for celebs is this: make an ass out of yourself (drugs, exposing yourself, cheating on your wife or beating her), enter rehab while telling us all that you want to be a better person, and expect to be praised for your "courage."

I've tried my hardest to give this guy the benefit of the doubt, but with this rehab business he's lost my last iota of support. There's a microscopic chance I'm wrong about him and his "rehab," of course, but as a rule assuming that a rehab stint for a celeb or public figure is merely a PR stunt is one of the safest bets I can think of. I don't believe a bit of this bullshit.
