Walker signs law pre-empting sick day ordinance
Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

Gov. Scott Walker signed into law Thursday a measure that voids Milwaukee's paid sick leave ordinance that was passed by voters in a referendum and upheld recently by the state Court of Appeals.

Walker, in Milwaukee on Thursday for the annual Governor's Prayer Breakfast at the Italian Community Center, went to offices of the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce offices to sign Senate Bill 23. The bill will pre-empt local ordinances from requiring businesses to provide paid sick leave to employees for family, medical or health issues.

"This law removes another barrier in the road to creating 250,000 private sector jobs by 2015," Walker said. "Patchwork government mandates stifle job creation and economic opportunity. This law gives employers the flexibility they need to put people back to work and that makes Wisconsin a more attractive place to do business."

12. My bad- meant to say "our"
Fixed.

Wellstone was such a defender of workers rights and the public in
general.

Walker is anything but.

To this day, I firmly suspect foul play in Wellstone's death.

14. I suspect he can...
...if it's a senate bill. He isn't making the law, just signing it.

Not that he didn't push for it, mind you,
but I'd be looking up the senators who actually voted for the thing.

13. Sick workers
who have to haul their butts to work because they can't afford to stay home ought to send their soggy snot rags to the Governor, or to the MMAC offices. Oh, and cough all over the envelopes before you mail them.

Damn

16. Not to mention
all the snot rags of folks that catch what a sickie is forced to bring to the workplace. Of course, this WOULD mean "job creation/security" for workers at all those private health care institutions. The potential for corporate gain goes FAR BEYOND the mere sale of an extra box of tissues! :puke:
