Unemployment Adds 9 Million Uninsured In U.S.
Source: USA TODAY

The millions of Americans who lost their jobs and their health benefits during the recession often had no way to regain affordable health coverage, leaving them and their families at risk of financial ruin, according to a new report from The Commonwealth Fund. ( http://content.usatoday.com/topics/topic/Organizations/Non-profits,+Activist+Groups/Commonwealth+Fund )

The spate of layoffs during the recession catapulted 9 million more Americans — or 57% of those who had had health insurance in a job that evaporated over the last two years — into the ranks of the millions already uninsured.

In addition, 19 million people anxiously seeking private coverage over the last three years were either turned down or could not find a plan that was affordable and met their needs, the report found.

The Biennial Health Insurance Survey also found a whopping 60% increase in skipped care due to cost in the past decade. The survey reported that medical debt problems and out-of-pocket spending costs were on the rise as well, with 29 million Americans using up their entire life savings to pay for medical bills and millions more unable to afford food, heat and rent due to medical payments.

5. I honest-to-god think it's plain old selfishness.
I really do. And when the situation hits them or someone they love, well that's "different"...

9. Oh my mistake
I thought Obama and the Democrats won in '08.

Bush is still president, really? I mean I'm not the most up-to-date, but I think I'd have remembered his historic and highly illegal third term.

3. So instead of fixing this, the Repukes tell the sad sacks to instead
be pissed at those who didn't lose their health care.

I can't wait until we finally hit back at these people. Hopefully there are enough lamp posts to accomodate the demand.

4. and starting in 2014.. unemployed and working poor will be required...
.. to purchase high price junk insurance with high deductibles and scant coverage... driving a stake thru the heart of middle class families in America.

Big Insurance reaps a windfall.

7. What are your thoughts about the expansion of medicaid and subsidies/tax credits that will be
available to poor-to-middle class workers? Do you feel the minimum cost and standard requirements provided through the exchanges will be inadequate?

11. No one cares about the unemployed.
When corporations reign supreme, the unemployed (whom they view as useless) are at the very bottom of the food chain.

12. We have another war to pay for, can't afford to give health care to
our citizens, can't afford food, or jobs, or training, or heat, or housing for them either. Got to pay for another war.

13. Suggestion: Going Dutch Collective Health Care means also that
people are ensured for health care, even when they un-employed, sick or whatever.

It is a matter of solidarity and Human Rights.

We pay for it via premium and income tax and support via federal tax-income.

Advice: Go for it!
