Iraq weapons strategy (Pentagon's Big Impact Plan)
http://www.washtimes.com/national/inring.htm

The Pentagon adopted a new strategy in its search for Iraq's weapons of mass destruction. It is called the "big impact" plan.

The plan calls for gathering and holding on to all the information now being collected about the weapons. Rather than releasing its findings piecemeal, defense officials will release a comprehensive report on the arms, perhaps six months from now.

The goal of the strategy will be to quiet critics of the Bush administration who said claims of Iraq's hidden weapons stockpiles were exaggerated in order to go to war.

President Bush on Wednesday said "miles of documents" have been gathered and are being analyzed. He described the material as containing "mounds of evidence" on Iraq's weapons.

In addition to analyzing documents on Iraq's arms, evidence of ousted Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein's ties to terrorists is being studied, Mr. Bush said. "And I'm confident the truth will come out," he said.

4. I saw Kay(new US 'inspector')
on CNN last night, talking about this 'strategy'. Of course, he held out the line of "programs" rather than actual weapons. This is unthinkable that the media will allow these jerks to bait and switch on their justifications for war.

5. Kay said they are focussing ONLY on biological WMD...watch
out...."biologicals" are NOT WMD....biologicals are handled very easily in our country, and do not kill "masses" of people...for example: tuberculosis, smallpox, anthrax, SARS, west Nile virus...these "biologicals" are NOT Weapons of MASS Destruction...

it's too bad that nobody could call Dr. Kay on his lies...the ONLY WMD are nuclear bombs....that's the weapon that kills masses and destroys whole cities...and that's what bush* and rice, and rummy and others said was a "mushroom cloud" going to get us...the bush* minions were claiming that an atomic bomb would be dropped on us....

also, a "dirty bomb" cannot do the damage or KILL masses...only an atomic bomb exploded in a major city can do that....

13. No - its a buying time strategy
They can keep saying.... "we HAVE found things, you just don't have access to the same information as we have... and we don't want to give information to the terrorists... er resisitance..."

Hey, it worked for the "intelligence" that was fed to us to get us into the war.

10. They've got a lot of work to do from what Chimpy said...
State of the Union:

"The United Nations concluded in 1999 that Saddam Hussein had biological weapons sufficient to produce over 25,000 liters of anthrax -- enough doses to kill several million people. He hasn't accounted for that material. He's given no evidence that he has destroyed it.

The United Nations concluded that Saddam Hussein had materials sufficient to produce more than 38,000 liters of botulinum toxin -- enough to subject millions of people to death by respiratory failure. He hadn't accounted for that material. He's given no evidence that he has destroyed it.

Our intelligence officials estimate that Saddam Hussein had the materials to produce as much as 500 tons of sarin, mustard and VX nerve agent. In such quantities, these chemical agents could also kill untold thousands. He's not accounted for these materials. He has given no evidence that he has destroyed them.

U.S. intelligence indicates that Saddam Hussein had upwards of 30,000 munitions capable of delivering chemical agents. Inspectors recently turned up 16 of them -- despite Iraq's recent declaration denying their existence. Saddam Hussein has not accounted for the remaining 29,984 of these prohibited munitions. He's given no evidence that he has destroyed them.

From three Iraqi defectors we know that Iraq, in the late 1990s, had several mobile biological weapons labs. These are designed to produce germ warfare agents, and can be moved from place to a place to evade inspectors. Saddam Hussein has not disclosed these facilities. He's given no evidence that he has destroyed them.

The International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed in the 1990s that Saddam Hussein had an advanced nuclear weapons development program, had a design for a nuclear weapon and was working on five different methods of enriching uranium for a bomb. The British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa. Our intelligence sources tell us that he has attempted to purchase high-strength aluminum tubes suitable for nuclear weapons production. Saddam Hussein has not credibly explained these activities. He clearly has much to hide."

12. So they'll try to baffle everyone with bullshit.
I'll bet this will be timed to come out during the presidential election, most of it will be highly dubious, but there will be "miles" of documents released so that people will have to work months to dispute anything.

14. Anything to hide their continued lying.
Bush is confident the truth will come out. The truth seemed clearly indicated by all the conflict in news reporting and the bogus investigations that affirmed foul play without pursuing who and why!

The truth is they are lying through their teeth while many spoilt americans go about their daily business in complete denial, ignorance and apathy.

Most of this is very old news.

15. The funny thing is - they think the public will TRUST secret Pentagon
operations? They think the public didn't see what the pentagon does when they work in secret and then announce their final plans? Sorry each of the following three examples DID get major media play - enough so that many people (not just the newshounds) have by now heard of the stories:

Office of Strategic (Mis)Information... Pentagon announces that it is going to intentionally leak misleading information to the foreign press to fool the enemy, but says that they WONT lie to the American peoeple.

Big hue and cry - because common sense says in the days of instant mass communication "truth" stories in America would contradict "false" stories elsewhere... ergo the caveat that they wouldn't lie to the American people was never believed.

After one week the program was (so we are told) scrapped.

Total Information Awareness.... Pentagon plan to gather information from all available data bases (government, commercial, health, etc.) on every US citizen in order to detect unusual behavior, and identify terrorists.

Big hue and cry - initially due to the type of information gathered, and the lack of clarfication that the Government wouldn't "sell" the database to commercial interests (as the US govt has done with some data on Mexican citizens).

Second hue and cry - invasion of privacy that was not tied to any level of suspicion (ie, no reason to suspect that YOU are a terrorist but we will compile and analyze all sorts of personal information regardless).

Congress stepped in to put MAJOR restrictions on the program, now renamed "Terrorist Information Awareness".

Terrorism Market Strategy Program (I don't have the correct title on this)... Do I even need to describe this perversion of a program?

Big hue and cry when a couple of senators unearthed the program.

Program ended and Poindexter resigns.

----------
In total - I would bet that the public distrust of the actions of the pentagon - especially when they are working in the shadows with NO accountability - is high. So high that this strategy will NEVER fly.

Oh - add to my list - for the newshounds - the outing of the Office of Strategic Planning in the Pentagon - set up to cook intelligence data to the pleasing of Rummy, Wolfie and Cheney.

16. Morford's view:

== Hey Look Here's Some WMD Right Here In My Ass Wow ==
An adviser to the CIA hinted that U.S. and coalition personnel were
close to a breakthrough in the search for weapons of mass destruction
in Iraq, ha ha ha yeah right snicker. David Kay, the agency's special
adviser for the weapons search, who apparently replaced the dozens of
experts and scientists and military personnel and UN inspectors and
entire teams of searchers all of whom found nothing after months of
searching, said "solid progress" was being made and that Iraqi
scientists involved in the weapons programs are "collaborating and
cooperating." "We are very, very close to fabricating just enough utter
BS and cobbling together just enough bogus planted data along with
finally finishing up with our secret night shipments of nuclear and
chemical weaponry from Israel and Pakistan and the U.S. and planting
them as bogus evidence all over Baghdad that we might finally be able
to concoct some lame half-assed "proof" of WMD, so BushCo can say see?
See? We didn't actually go to war and massacre thousands and get
hundreds of U.S. soldiers killed for our vicious petrochemical
connections and military portfolios," he might've added, sucking down
his eighth Martini and wondering just how the hell his life came to
this. "Oh my freaking God do they think you are dumb. I mean, wow."
