Obama blasts Senate over wage discrimination bill
Source: USA Today

... He just issued a statement protesting a GOP-fueled Senate filibuster of a wage discrimination bill:

I am deeply disappointed that a minority of Senators have prevented the Paycheck Fairness Act from finally being brought up for a debate and receiving a vote.

This bill passed in the House almost two years ago; today, it had 58 votes to move forward, the support of the majority of Senate, and the support of the majority of Americans. As we emerge from one of the worst recessions in history, this bill would ensure that American women and their families aren't bringing home smaller paychecks because of discrimination.

It also helps businesses that pay equal wages as they struggle to compete against discriminatory competition. But a partisan minority of Senators blocked this commonsense law. Despite today's vote, my Administration will continue to fight for a woman's right to equal pay for equal work

4. For the next
two years it will be time for the GOP to try and spin their dislike of women, gays, middle class....

The American people will see who they are in favor of - the RICH.

13. The American people DO NOT CARE!
Or at least enough Americans do not care because they think they will be RICH one day...Plus, many if not most Americans are "inFOXicated" & think everyone is equal now since we have a black president & women are getting elected like never before...They will look at this bill & think it is just another BIG GOVERNMENT BILL by Democrats who want to meddle in everything! WHY? Well, that is what FOX "News" & Talk Radio tell them to think!

I am sorry but I do not share the idea that most of "VOTING" America is left of center...I think most of America is religiously right of center and I think to act otherwise is a big mistake!

I HOPE LIKE HELL I AM WRONG!!

...But I think 30+ years of Republican rule in this country plus the fact that the Right Wing & the Religious Right have taken over the AM radio waves & much of the FM radio waves and add in the Rupert Murdoch Media Empire that has destroyed responsible media/journalism and you have a public that is DELUSIONAL! A public that has been programmed to vote against themselves!

3. We can't give up
I intend to write my critters and ask them for an explicit explanation of why the bill wasn't passed. I just can't believe women would vote Republican. What a bunch of idiots.

6. "I just can't believe women would vote Republican."
...or Blacks, or Hispanics, or the working class, or LBGT, or people with children, or basically anyone who isn't a white, male multi-millionaire who is also a homophobic racist "Christian" who doesn't give a shit about the economic and environmental future left behind for today's children. But if you somehow manage to fit into that group, why would ever not vote republican.

19. We NEVER had 60 votes.
We had probably 56 + Lie-berman + Baucus + Lincoln + Nelson, any one of whom would gladly screw us over for their own personal glorification.

11. Why did the Senate take so long to bring up this bill?
The House passed it January 9, 2009.

20. I suspect Obama will be saying the exact same thing after every vote for the next two years.
Republicans have made no bones about their strategy. Stop the Democrats at all cost. Do not let a single Democratic Bill pass the Senate and then get elected in a landslide in 2012.. I have a hunch it is going to backfire this time though..That is unless Obama caves to their every wish as he has a tendency to do..

21. I will actively campaign against Snowe and Scumbag Brown starting now

Unless Snowe gets Collins and Murkowski on board for another vote, she's toast. I had hoped she would
switch parties, even though it would only be a self-fulfilling move on her part, but now I will work hard
to ensure she fails in her re-elction bid.
