NBC: Quinn is apparent winner in Illinois gov race

NBC News reports that Democrat Gov. Pat Quinn is the apparent winner in the Illinois governors race.

Quinn, a former lieutenant governor who stepped into the job two years ago when Gov. Rod Blagojevich was ousted due to corruption charges, has a lead of about 19,000 votes over Republican state Sen. Bill Brady.

He campaigned on a proposal to raise income taxes in order to help offset the state's staggering deficit.

Another Democrat on the ticket, Obama ally Alexi Giannoulias, lost to Republican Mark Kirk in the state's Senate race Tuesday.

1. Yay! He was a reformer and an activist way back when.
A happy little blip in the bleakness that is this year's Illinois results. (But, we did keep Jan Schakowsky--yay!!)

2. Thank God
Quinn has always been a stand up guy. Rumor has it he didn't even talk to Blago in their last term together, when Blago really went off the deep end.

8. Phew!
I'm still pissed that IL went red. I was talking to a friend's boyfriend at a Halloween party on Sat. night--who is a part of the big construction union in Chicago--and he wasn't going to vote because "IL is a union state." Basically, he meant that it would still be blue. Sadly, he was wrong.

Quite sad that the stupid sheep fell for Republic**t bullshit. I'll be really pissed if my mom, who works at a CPS school, loses her great job salary or benefits or is pinkslipped completely because of the destruction of unions. Then, I'm sure my dad will not be pointing the finger at Rs but I'll remind him that they are the exact reason the Unions went under. IF a scenario such as this were to happen.

A guy who tried to raise taxes on the rich last Spring,
was opposed by an independent candidate, and a right winger who called for cuts in all spending -- 10 percent
...that guy, Pat Quinn, an honest, reformer, won.

13. Quinn started citizens utility board here in IL
God only knows what our electic and gas bills would be with out this group -it has been very effective
I worked with him on term limit proposal in '94 good guy /advocate/out in the streets type to get thinngs done
A real person
& who tells the truth like " i am going to have to raise taxes to get us out of this"
at least he lets you know up front

In one of the debates they had, Brady said he would model Illinois after what is going on with Christie in N.J.
Quinn's reply was something like..."that means you will bust the education here civil servants will be cut and transit will be defunded"
It was great how he let people listening to the debate know right away that if Brady said he wanted to mirror NJ's Christie what that would mean in case they were unaware of what is up in NJ

My only concern, so sad to say, is that he is too honest to play with the dirty dogs in Springfield(capitol)successfully...

My state stays (sorta) blue-whew

Brady is against abortion even in cases of rape and incest. He has also been deemed the most "anti-woman nominee ever to run for Illinois govenor" by Personal PAC President Terry Cosgrove. Glad he is gone BYE BYE Now

Oh and our new Lt Gov is the daughter of former US senator Paul Simon and one of the first female state representatives in Illinois history!

15. Another good thing to say about Quinn
As Lt Gov, he attended all the service men and women's funerals. Was always there to talk with and comfort the families. Big supporter of our veterans and as far as I know, doesn't make any deal about that at all.

An honest man. The only bright spot in our week here in Illinois. And his running mate is amazing and no doubt will be Illinois' first woman governor when Pat steps down.

16. I had no idea CUB got my gas connected within a day of me contacting them.
Long story short People's Gas fucked up my application when I moved into my new apartment and then told me I'd have to wait about 2 weeks to get it hooked up. One phone call to CUB and a day later I'm set up.
