RENO, Nev. — A gunman shot three people Friday inside a Walmart store, police said.

The three victims were transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The store was evacuated and the shooter remained holed up in the northwest corner of the building, KRNV-TV reported.

Police said they receieved a call around 8:30 a.m. They arrived on scene to find one victim in the store. As more officers entered the store, two other victims were discovered.

The sad thing in these cases that often the poor gun is taken into custody and
they get melted down ...... Please think about the gun's right to life! :sarcasm:

28. It's just fine
till you stop into the store for a gallon of milk and a pack of underwear, and find yourself shot by someone else.

It really doesn't matter that these incidents are at "historic lows" if you're the one staring down the barrel of someone else's gun, is it?

30. But since you are safer than you have ever been in your lifetime
and the odds of it actually happening extremely low perhaps the bigger issue is your irrational fear instead of an actual threat.

37. Well, let's see here
We were at a party given by one of my husband's co-workers last month during which another attendee decided to bring his pistols out to play. While drunk. We left.

I used to own a business in our hometown. Another business owner in the building (a known white supremacist,) brandished his weapon at me in an attempt to intimidate. The police came. The outcome wasn't fun for him.

Interestingly enough, I was sitting in traffic about five years ago and saw a guy waving a pistol outside of his car window in the next lane.

Prior to that, I was a contractor at the largest software company in the world for over a year; one of my co-workers decided it was appropriate to show up at work packing heat.

I live in a fairly progressive area of the country. It's nothing more than dumb luck that I managed to remain safe during these incidents. Someday, I may not be so lucky.

>the bigger issue is your irrational fear instead of an actual threat<

Perhaps you may want to try this line of reasoning on the family members and friends of those who were shot to death in churches, a gym, McDonald's, college campuses, a picnic at a state park, and multiple other places in which they were doing nothing more than attempting to live their lives. Spree shootings are so commonplace now in this country that they don't warrant wall-to-wall coverage on the news anymore.

Again, you can cite all the statistics you'd like, but the bottom line is the following: As long as innocent people find themselves as target practice by those who either should not own a gun or get access to one, nobody's safe.

39. I never said it doesn't happen
I said it is a very rare event and every year the odds of it actually happening get lower.

In my town of 20,000 there has been exactly one shooting in 10 years.

9. The lack of life-threatening injuries
It's not that hard to kill people by shooting them with a handgun, even a small one. Gang hits often involve shooting at peoples' legs or arms rather than for center of mass.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Walmart says a gunman holed up at one of its stores in Reno where three people were wounded is an employee at the site.

35. Reno Walmart gunman surrenders, police say
A gunman who police said was about to be fired surrendered to police Friday after three employees were wounded in a possible retaliation attack in the Walmart store where the suspect worked, police said.

The move came after police negotiators spoke for two hours by telephone with the man identified as 45-year-old John Dennis Gillane.

Reno police Lt. Mohammad Rafqat said Gillane was taken into custody and will be charged with three counts of attempted murder.

No shots were fired after the three victims were wounded shortly after 8:30 a.m., Rafqat said.
