MILWAUKEE — Harley-Davidson Inc. workers approved a seven-year contract that freezes wages and slashes hundreds of jobs in concessions the company said will keep two of its Wisconsin factories open.

The Milwaukee-based motorcycle company had warned that it would move the production to another state if its three state unions rejected the deal. A move would have eliminated about 1,350 jobs.

After reviewing the results of the unions' votes, the board of directors agreed Tuesday to call off the search for replacement sites.

"Change is never easy, and we have asked our employees to make difficult decisions. However, we are pleased to be keeping production operations in our hometown of Milwaukee and in Tomahawk," company President and Chief Executive Keith Wandell said in a statement.

4. Harley at least still builds it's bike in the US
Every other US based automotive industry company moves their work offshore. They earn a lot of points in my book for that.

10. In Fort Walton.
Family has been in the panhandle of Florida from St. Marks to Pensacola since the 1800's. I guess we never had a mule or car good enough to get us out. :)

8. Built with Chinese parts
all to save a buck. Front wheel bearings that fail at 5000 miles. Harley made over 70 million in profits last year. The CEO made 15 million over the past 2 years. The workers get no raise for 7 years?

The workers should take the $12,000 they got in the settlement(over another issue) and go out and buy a Japanese bike. Fill the parking lot with them. If they CEOs weren't such jerks they could have turned those checks into many new Harley sales but they deserve just the opposite.

Harley AMF here we come again.
