Judge OKs Agreement Over Neb. Abortion Screening
Source: KETV Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. -- A federal judge has approved an agreement between Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning and Planned Parenthood of the Heartland that blocks a law requiring health screenings for women seeking abortions.

Bruning's office announced last week that it wouldn't defend the law in court because there's little chance it would prevail. The judge earlier indicated the law was likely unconstitutional.

The law would have required women wanting abortions to be screened to determine whether they had risk factors indicating they could have mental or physical problems after an abortion.

5. Screening Pregnant Women is a Good Idea
they should screen all pregnant woman to make sure they don't have risk factors for mental or physical problems after giving birth.

OF course, I'm not really serious about such a thing. But I have to wonder, if we were a little more attentive to the psychological affects some women suffer, the children of Andrea and Russell Yates might be alive today.

6. If the morons were so serious about ending legal abortion, why didnt they...
...long ago advocate for universal pre-natal and maternity care. Look, if one want's to end abortion, illegalizing it won't work. We had illegal abortion until '73. Rich women went to Europe; middle class women went to Mexico; and poor women went to butchers to get their pregnancies ended. Ending or reducing abortions means a) education on birth control b) offering women of all economic levels the means to have their babies knowing they will get quality medical care before and after the birth and c) have options for quality child care if they want to raise chidren on their own.

As you correctly suggest, a key part of pre-natal and post-natal care is depression prevention. However, as you know, that had nothing to do with the Nebraska law, which was a thinly veiled attempt at an end-run around Roe.

7. Existing mental and physical problems of the woman don't justify a late term abortion, but
the POSSIBLITY of problems arising in the future justify denying an abortion? Was that the "thinking" behind this law?

Beware of folks who can twist like pretzels and spin like tops to justify whatever they find convenient to justify. I don't care which party such folk belong to or what the issue is. Beware.
