WP: Hughes Rises to Bush*s Defense
AUSTIN, March 28 -- President Bush's confidante Karen P. Hughes returned to the public stage Sunday with plans to weave her combative defense of the White House into a six-week book tour, then go on the campaign payroll in mid-August.

(snip)

This is no tell-all, and readers looking for dirt on Bush and his administration inner circle will be disappointed. He is portrayed as a commanding presence ("Write this down!" he tells her at one point) who likes short sermons and despises leaks from lower-level aides. When Hughes was in the West Wing, she served as a balance of power with Karl Rove, Bush's senior adviser, and witnesses have provided vivid accounts of their showdowns in meetings. An entry in the index is "Rove, Karl, author's disagreements with."

But Hughes declined advice to dish about Rove. Instead, she writes that the differences are not personal and that "most of our disagreements are born of our different jobs and perspectives." Hughes has been the guardian of Bush's public message throughout his political career, through two campaigns for Texas governor, the primary and general elections of 2000, the recount and into the White House -- so much so that she said she feared she "might end up writing a book that sounds like him instead of me." She said she considers herself "a normal person, who has a life, a normal family . . . except, of course, I have a boss and a friend who became the president of the United States."

Hughes said that it is "not a typical political gossip book," but instead about "life, family and faith -- important things." She is a Presbyterian -- she lists the members of her Bible study in the book's acknowledgments -- and one of the major themes running through the 346 pages is the influence that her faith had on her deliberations.

17. Supreme Court decisions equal a hell of a campaign?
Democrats could not have gotten away with stealing an election the way the Repukes did. I agree hughes should not be underestimated. Professional crooks and their in pocket judges never should be. Diebold has even promised to hand Bu$h Ohio with their crooked voting machines. That is one reason another minority vote yeilding effort could curse us in November. And not just in Ohio do we have to watch for theft of votes.
Peace
Wildman

6. Another charltan "praying in public"
Edited on Sun Mar-28-04 11:12 PM by CastorTroy
Do any of these dipshits talk without talking about their "faith". She talks lovingly of her bible study group and works for an administration that pisses all it's core teachings.

I'm sick of hearing about "faith". So far from the Bush administration, "faith" has become synonomous with reliance on whacky theories (Mylorie anyone?) and straight-up deception.

F*** faith, I'll take a logicial-thinking heathen to be my president.

18. But the republican god personally told Bush to smite Saddam.
And the republican god personally told Bush that the mission of the United States is to bring freedom to every single person in the world.

The republican god also personally approved of the corruption of Governor Rowland.

Republicans need their god to justify their crimes.

10. Maybe she can replace Condi

I thought she was so busy with her little family.
Funny that she has time to write a book AND now come back to D.C.
Maybe she will fill in for Condi,if America wakes up and gets her out of there.
I know, you will say that Hughes has no qualifications for NSA - what good did all the qualifications do Condi.

Hughes and Rice are equally as qualified as liars.

11. Condi was qualified for a non-existent job
Condi was an expert in Soviet relations and cold-war gamesmanship. Like Star Wars, she was a mothball-reeking relic of the Raygun years that the Bush admin. tried hard to steep itself in.

pukes I've ever seen.

Faux Christian is what SHE is! Rotten to the core! I wonder if she remembers the commandment, "Thou shalt not steal"...as in the sElection of 2000!

15. What happened to spending more time with the family?
She wrote a book? Will the conservatives see this as a blatant attempt to capitalize off the Bush name?

16. Huges appears in a Bush ad--what is that? Is she running for something?
and she's all in cheescloth. ( Years ago, photographers put cheesecloth in front of the camera lens to blur the faces, and to cover facial marks and wrinkles--I think there is probably a program the cameras today use--anyhow there she is, all blurred with halos in her hair. :eyes:

Can we please have a country back that does not look as if all it cares about is spectacular TV comercials and shallow platitudes coming from the lips of our elected (in this case non elected) officials.

I am so sick of this Hollywood approach to politics.
