Bangkok: A bomb placed on a motorcycle exploded outside a bar in southern Thailand last night, injuring about 30 people, mostly tourists from nearby Malaysia, police and hospital workers said.Three people were seriously wounded by the blast in the parking lot of a hotel in Sungai Golok, a town on the border with Malaysia, said police Captain Pibul Wattanatham. No one has taken responsibility for the blast in the town in Narathiwat province, the latest incident in a wave of violence to hit Thailand's Muslim-majority south.
Most of those injured were Malaysian tourists, said a worker at Sungai Golok Hospital, speaking on condition of anonymity. She could not give the condition of the injured, but said the hospital was treating up to 26 people. Pibul said about half of them were released after treatment. He said the bomb destroyed four other motorcycles parked nearby but added it was not clear what kind of explosive was used.
Police did not speculate on the motive for the bombing.
Sungai Golok is a popular destination for male tourists from Malaysia, which is predominantly Muslim. The town is known for prostitution and smuggling.

Today's bomb blast is not the first in the region.
