Palin erroneously calls Kodiak largest US island
Source: Associated Press

By HOLLY RAMER (AP) – 6 hours ago

CONCORD, N.H. — Sarah Palin incorrectly calls Alaska's Kodiak Island the largest island in America in a Facebook post endorsing a Senate candidate in New Hampshire.

The Big Island of Hawaii is about 440 square miles larger than Kodiak, where Palin and her family were headed Monday.

In endorsing Republican candidate Kelly Ayotte (AY'-aht), Palin also strayed a bit from the facts in praising her for having "won" a case before the U.S. Supreme Court.

As state attorney general, Ayotte defended a law requiring parental notification for teenagers seeking abortions. But it was repealed after the U.S. Supreme Court sent it back to a lower court.

Ayotte is among seven candidates seeking the GOP nomination for the seat being vacated by Republican Sen. Judd Gregg. Rep. Paul Hodes is unopposed in the Democratic primary.

You'd think she'd know better, having actually been to Hawaii. But no-o-oo.

39. Doesn't Ms Pay-lin have handlers, staff and consultants to fact check her posts?
Seems like she just throws stuff against the wall to see what will stick. Imagine her as POTUS, she'd probably invade the wrong country - or worse yet, declare war on California or some other weird Palinistic krazyness.

that she appeals to the dumbass/ignorant faction of our population, who are actually a force to be reckoned with...those who find the intellectualism of Glenn Beck to be...challenging.
Those who are terrified and suspicious of anyone with an IQ over 110...

33. 2000 census #s by wiki shows Kodaik @>3% pop of Hawaii.
Hawaii 148,677
Kodiak 3,913

http://www.to-hawaii.com/ethnicity.php
"The majority of the Native Hawaiian people, however, have less than 50 percent pure Hawaiian blood. As of the 1990 U.S. Census, there were 1,108,229 people living in Hawaii. Of those people, 369, 616 were Caucasian, 247,486 were of Japanese descent, 168,682 were of Filipino descent, 138,742 were of Hawaiian descent and 68,804 were of Chinese descent."

There are more white people living in Hawaii than all people on Kodiak.

OK, call me a nerd

Her followers fear those "pointy headed intellectuals" who look down on them. In their world "stupid rules" and this is their chance to take over and make the world a safer place for them. It doesn't take too much brain power to solve every problem with force and conjecture and to attack every problem literally. Think of all the savings the government will have when no one needs to study any issue/problem ever again.

66. Indeed. One of them tried to edit the Wikipedia entry so that it would take Palin's side.
Before Palin weighed in, the Wikipedia article about said that it was the second-largest in the United States. Someone edited the article to say it was the largest, citing as reference about Palin's error -- a story that, of course, refutes Palin's claim rather than supporting it.

Quickly realizing the problem, the same anonymous Palinista editor then deleted the reference to the AP and substituted a reference to... wait for it... endorsing Ayotte.

Now, think about this. The Palinista editor had to affirmatively remove an AP story giving the facts, and substitute a link to Palin's own blatherings. As icing on the cake, he or she had to do this while ignoring a wikilink (link to another Wikipedia article) in the same sentence, titled , which of course put Hawaii first.

This goes beyond carelessness, or consulting an outdated reference (let alone something like a legitimate question about what the facts are). This is willful denial of the real world in favor of what's politically expedient. (Incidentally, the nitwittery lasted less than 40 minutes before being reverted.)
