Shooting disrupts pro-Bakiyev rally in Kyrgyzstan
Source: reuters

(Reuters) - Bodyguards of Kyrgyzstan's president fired shots into the air to help Kurmanbek Bakiyev escape about 1,000 opponents who disrupted a rally he was addressing on Thursday.

A Reuters photographer and cameraman saw several of the 20 bodyguards guarding Bakiyev fire bursts from Kalashnikov rifles and usher the president into a waiting jeep. His motorcade then sped away from Osh, Kyrgyzstan's second city.

Bakiyev has been trying to muster support in his southern stronghold since fleeing an April 7 uprising in the capital, Bishkek, during which his troops fired repeatedly into crowds of protesters calling for his resignation.

Thursday's gunfire, in two bursts a few minutes apart, started when opponents of Bakiyev moved toward his rally from a separate gathering in support of the interim government, a Reuters reporter at the scene said.

4. Flown to Kazakhstan:
His motorcade was later seen arriving at the airport in Jalalabad, before a plane departed on Thursday, a BBC correspondent witnessed.

Mr Bakiyev left the country for talks with Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev, according to Russian news agencies.

Kazakhstan holds the chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), a regional body designed to promote democracy, and wants to help its neighbour resolve its political crisis.

The US, Russia and Kazakhstan had been working together to allow Mr Bakiyev to leave the country, according to the OSCE.

The opposition interim government which took over had been unable to reach any agreement with the president.

6. People
The poor and resolute revolutionary people. People who took police stations and disarmed the police. People who wouldn't shoot brothers and sisters and refused to take such orders from officers. People who beat the interior minister to death for ordering police and soldiers to shoot at them. People who liberated prisoners of the former horribly corrupt and oppressive US puppet regime and kicked it out.

People of Kyrgystan. We'll see if they tolerate the self-appointed "interim regime" and how long.
