Lamont to announce candidacy for Conn. governor
Source: AP

HARTFORD, Conn. -- Ned Lamont is poised to announce his candidacy for Connecticut governor.

Lamont, who challenged U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman four years ago, is expected to announce his bid for governor Tuesday at the Old State House in Hartford.

Lamont won the 2006 Democratic primary against Lieberman, but the senator ran in the general election as an independent and won. The Greenwich businessman spent $16 million of his own money and was able to tap into the discontent among many Democrats over Lieberman's support of the war in Iraq.

Four other Democratic candidates have exploratory committees, but have not committed to running.

1. This is a smart political move for Lamont. I wouldn't be surprised
to see him position himself for a presidential run in the future...not near future, but one nonetheless.

25. If he runs for President, I would probably vote for him out of sheer guilt for what the
DNC and prominent Democrats did to him when he ran against Traitor Joe.

27. Hey who knows, we have time to see how he'll do as governor.
Joe Lieberman will likely come out of his Independent closet once and for all and run again as a Republican for the Senate.

5. Blumenthal to announce run for Senate
** And should win this easily imo.

(WTNH) - Connecticut Attorney general Richard Blumenthal is ready to jump into the race for U.S. Senate.
Blumenthal has scheduled a Noon news conference to announce his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for US Senate.

Incumbent Senator Chris Dodd is expected to announce today he will not seek re-election.

"I admire and respect Senator Dodd's decades of service to the people and state of Connecticut," Blumenthal told WTNH this morning. "He deserves gratitude for that service.

"I plan to hold a press conference, at noon today at Democratic headquarters, to announce that I will be a candidate for the Senate."

There is already another Democrat in the race. Merrick Alpert has been in the race for months, but has not raised much money. There has been no statement from him yet about Sen. Dodd's decision.

16. Dick Blumenthal is pretty popular with just about everyone in CT.
He is seen as a fighter for the little guy. He is always in the news. If you have been in CT for longer than 15 minutes or if you have a pulse you know who Dick Blumenthal is.

just recycling pertinent DU commentary I posted. It's about Ned.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=7599574&mesg_id=7604547

Also, this vid has really resonated with me "Democracy in America is a useful fiction"

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=385&topic_id=434828&mesg_id=434828

This Chris Hedges vid is something I savor and save for sending to people in my orbit I think I can reach. I think these times have exactly two categories of Americans: Those that know we are months away from totalitarianism and complete take over of our lives by our corporate masters. And those that choose to ignore and deny and believe the MSM Corporate Pravda propaganda. Sometimes I feel like a 50's communist trying to recruit members without being arrested and blackballed.

10. At the time, this didn't help Lamont either:
The New York Times reports that Joe Lieberman did not command the attention or respect of his audience at a fundraising event in Connecticut Thursday night.

Three times on Thursday night, Senator Joseph I. Lieberman asked the crowd of 1,700 for quiet during his remarks at the state Democrats' annual Jefferson Jackson Bailey fund-raising dinner. "Shhh," he told the guests. But rather than interrupting him with applause, many were ignoring him, having struck up conversations after finishing their chicken.

The inattentiveness -- as well as the scattered boos amid the supportive calls of "Joe" that welcomed Mr. Lieberman to the podium -- convinced some that the three-term senator, criticized for months because of his continued support for the war in Iraq, may be vulnerable in the primary challenge he faces.

Who came to his rescue? Sen. Barak Obama, with a ringing endorsement.

30. He came across as a lightweight
Those Kos commercials didn't help him with gravitas at all.

He needs to approach this much more thoughtfully and come across as well-informed and full of solid ideas.

18. My worry is that it is one helluva time to be a governor right now.
Ned could be set up to fail in this toxic environment. State governments are in a real bind to both deliver services and not raise taxes. It's an awful predicament to be in. I like Ned and I trust him. I worked for him in 06. I will work for him again. But I am also shuddering a little about what will be facing him...
