An Ohio man who said he wanted to ``kill all the Jews'' was taken off a flight from Miami to Detroit and arrested Wednesday, police said.

Delta Flight 2485 had been taxiing when Mansor Mohammad Asad, 43, caused a ``disturbance'' and the plane returned to the jet-bridge.

When Asad was taken off the plane to be interviewed by police, he threatened officers, made racial comments and charged an officer, authorities said.

Asad was charged with threats against a public servant, disorderly conduct and resisting an officer without violence to his person.

4. He's an American citizen with a mental illness
Edited on Thu Jan-07-10 01:27 PM by Tempest
Asad is an American citizen who works at Appliance Connection in Toledo, Ohio, the arrest report said.

Asad's son, Mickey Asad, who was not traveling with his father, told The Miami Herald his father has bipolar disorder. He told the Associated Press the elder Asad had been in and out of mental institutions when he was younger.

Still think he should be deported?

By the way, he never left the country.

6. As someone with a psych degree I wonder when he stopped taking his meds
Sounds like he was not using them at all anymore. Paranoia increases with a bipolar person when they get off their meds. Mental illness really does not ever get addressed properly in this country.

7. Yes, if he is a naturalized citizen
The Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 allows for the deportation of naturalized citizens.

8. He's mentally ill, not a terrorist

But for some reason you want to treat him the same.

9. Tell that to the victims of the Ft. Hood shooting
They are just as dead whether they were shot by a terrorist or a lunatic. Either way this guy is a threat to others and should be dealt with accordingly.

10. Hypobole much?

Either way this guy is a threat to others and should be dealt with accordingly.

And your solution is to deport an American citizen who hasn't been shown to be a threat to anyone?

You act like you've never made statements in anger that were inappropriate. And no one is going to buy that nonsense.

2. I'd say that's a pretty good call. Not from fear of terrorism but just oridinary crime. NT
