Judge orders U. of Michigan to turn over abortion records
DETROIT (AP) — A federal judge on Friday ordered the University of Michigan Health System to turn over redacted records about certain late-term abortions performed there.

All identifying information is to be removed from the records, and lawyers for the university said they were satisfied their patients' privacy would be safeguarded.

The records in question will be turned over to a federal judge in New York, who will determine whether they can be used in a lawsuit challenging a ban on a certain abortion procedure.

5. I think the judge was appointed by Carter.
he said he had no choice, he's a Democrat.
Dems seem to help repukes more than the other way around.

by a judge in Chicago & the Planned Parenthood subpoenas were withdrawn.

7. This is the second time they have gone after the Univ/Michigan. The first
over affirmative action and now this.

Is there any particular reason Bush seems to be picking on them?

9. They have a good music school
but evil men like him and his buddies dislike the arts because the arts exist only for the sake of themselves. There's nothing "useful" about fine arts. To these people anyway.

Just an angle, albeit a long shot. I've personally had to deal with people like this, people who felt music wasn't important enough to waste time on in an educational system. Such people are wilfully blind; we must write them off.

There are none so blind as those who will not see.

10. You are correct about how they feel about the arts.
My oldest daughter is a flute performance grad student at Carnegie Mellon. They have a big computer science department, and they think the sun rises and sets on them. Someone from that department told my daughter's advisor and teacher that they only keep music there to keep their accreditation!

My daughter also has a grant from the Vira Heinz foundation. Now the repugs are looking into that foundation, to see if they can use it against Kerry.

Years ago, my brother, also a musician, had a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. The repukes looked into how some of those grants were awarded, and did everything they could to cut the programs. So much for his grant!

I am sick of these greedy, anti-intellectual bastards.

Typical Puke voters

Instantly reduce your IQ as this first-person shooter game puts you smack-dab in the fictional town of Hickston, Arkansas. Armed with up to ten weapons (including crowbars, dynamite, double-barreled shotguns, ripsaw blades, and an alien arm gun, blast your way through country bars, trailer parks, and chicken processing plants in search of your pig, who's been abducted by aliens. But you're not going to get far without fuel (pork rinds and whiskey) for fending off the good old boys brandishing sawed-off shotguns.

12. The only way these records should be released
is if a patient specifically has signed a form stating that it's ok to release his/her redacted medical records to the government. U of M is where my family gets our medical care, and I don't want them to release any of our records to the Bushitters, not even for a sniffle or a hangnail. It's no one's business. When I go to my dr. for care, I expect privacy. The ONLY form I have signed states that I give my consent to release my records ONLY to my insurance company. Perhaps a consent form for the government should be created, and if a patient CHOOSES to have his/her redacted records released, then that would be fine. But where is the choice here?

13. We recently took place in a medical research study
at Vanderbilt. The researcher told us that if bush* came to campus to speak, that ALL medical records would be considered for his safety. Not just the records of those currently in the hospital, but ALL records. The researcher was VERY po'd about this, citing HIPPA allowed this.

S'Yeah, like it's a matter of "Nashunal Sekuritee" how much Metformin I take a day for my Diabetes.

They use Melissa out in Mormon-land to establish that a Zygote has RIGHTS, then they flush Row v. Wade, and then Donatella Versace unveils her "Burkha Line", which will be a shame, because I think she looks hot in those clothes you have to glue on.....

16. The issue of partial birth abortion has not yet been debated on
this thread; I've looked in depth at both sides of the issue, and I cannot see a reason to continue this practice. The vast majority of medical practitioners say it's not necessary to protect the health of the mother; in fact, it could be more dangerous to the mother to try to pull the baby through the birth canal, as opposed to a C-section... And, unlike "normal" abortion procedures, the overwhelming majority of Americans oppose the procedure.

And, responding to a post on another thread, the criticism that Christians are against any concern for the mother--that does not fit with my experience, not at all. Our church puts its money where its mouth is -- we don't stand in judgment of moms who find themselves in a situation where they're considering abortion--we extend the love of Jesus, help them monetarily, and even sponsor a house where they can live while they are pregnant (and followup with help and care after the baby is born). And the same goes for women who have had abortions--they would never be condemned or turned away from the church but instead be accepted with loving open arms.

The evil, vicious few who call themselves Christians and condemn others with anger and hatred (or shoot doctors, etc.) are NOT the norm, nor are they truly "Christian" (which by the way means "little Christ") -- Christ would never have done anything like that.

19. Sadly, though....
Most I have met seem to lose all interst in the poor little baby the moment the umbillical is cut.
Your church is very much in the minority, I'm afraid.
But I'm glad you do what you do.
