1. At this rate it won't be long
before we're getting all of our "news" from Newscorp, buying all of our medicine from Pfizer and getting all of our casual wear from Nike.

This consolidation and closing has to end sometime doesn't it?

3. Greg used part of a letter I wrote where
I said we canceled our two papers over the non-coverage of Ohio. Hope E&P comes back in some other incarnation. :(

4. Very, very sad, and the end of an era...
they were one of the few trades who continued to practice true investigative journalism. That particular trade has now been almost completely replaced by infotainment.

:(

6. The should do what I did when the publication I worked for folded

Get their act together and take it online. A bunch of unemployed and disgruntled New Jersey reporters pooled their resources and did exactly that.

10. I Love the Internet

But I could do okay without it.

When arrogant protocol, database, and programming engineers in their $60k->$120k jobs complain about H1B visas, this is what I think about - all the people who were happy to make $40k or less in jobs they were passionate about getting the wrong end of the stick from cube rats who want information to be "free." Do these tools really think they'll still be needed after they make half of the rest of the world - seemingly - redundant?

It's just the means to an end. What was going to "level the playing field" is instead putting surface knowledge into the hands of people with more assets and social & self-promotional skills than intellectual curiosity and drive to excel.
