Durbin:Senate Won't Vote On Jobless Benefit Extension This Week
Source: Dow Jones Newswires

WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- The U.S. Senate won't vote on legislation extending federal jobless benefits to long-term unemployed people, a top Democratic lawmaker said Thursday, as a fight between party leaders drags into its fourth week.

The measure would extend federal benefits by 20 weeks for jobless people living in the hardest-hit states, and for 14 weeks for out of work Americans in all 50 states.

Assistant Majority Leader Richard Durbin (D., Ill.) said lawmakers wouldn't vote on the legislation until next week.

I don't know why they can't bring this to a vote.

3. This is Bullcrap
My benefits ran out this week and they are in the Senate playing GAMES for the last 3 weeks. The bill has been in the senate for 3 weeks. Do they not work on Friday or what? I will be figuring out how to make it during the month of November 2009.

7. The Republicans have added "poison pill" amendments.
That's the hold-up. The benefits will be made retroactive, is my understanding.

8. I am not sure about that

With regard to state extended, if the federal passes, then the weeks paid by the state fund will be covered by the federal.

In other words, I have been on state extended for three weeks. If the idiots pass the legislation next week, then that means I will have seventeen weeks of federal extended UI instead of 20.

State EUI is a bitch.

12. I don't know what State you're in but Michigan is not paying benefits
my sister's extension ran out last month. I have been providing for her needs on my fixed income for the last 3 weeks. If it wasn't for me, she wouldn't be eating right now.

14. they paid her the first extension and it is exhausted
they are not paying out any more until congress passes this bill. I guess our state can't afford to cover the costs until the government reimburses it.
