RNC tells TV stations not to run anti-Bush ads (MoveOn)
RNC tells TV stations not to run anti-Bush ads

GOP committee says MoveOn.org's spots are illegally financed

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The Republican
National Committee is warning television
stations across the country not to run ads
from the MoveOn.org Voter Fund that
criticize President Bush, charging that the
left-leaning political group is paying for
them with money raised in violation of the
new campaign-finance law.

"As a broadcaster licensed by the
Federal Communications Commission,
you have a responsibility to the viewing
public, and to your licensing agency, to
refrain from complicity in any illegal
activity," said the RNC's chief counsel,
Jill Holtzman Vogel, in a letter sent to
about 250 stations Friday.

"Now that you have been apprised of
the law, to prevent further violations of
federal law, we urge you to remove
these advertisements from your station's
broadcast rotation."

But MoveOn.org's lawyer, Joseph
Sandler, said in a statement that the ads
were funded legally, calling the RNC's
letter "a complete misrepresentation of
the law."

23. Pukes have own Networks
Faux and Clear Channel. Both of these are nothing more than non-stop commercials for CHIMPANZEE McSHRUB and his war mongering "Corporate Hooligans".

They are now 24-7 promoting the extreme right wing.

We have at least 4 of these stations in my town.

24-7 of

Mike Reagan, O'Reilly, Savage, Hannity, Glen Beck, G. Gordon Liddy and many others too numerous to name. Thousands of hours of Propaganda.

5. This is a threat....
Mention of the FCC licence is basically saying, "run these ads and we'll yank your licence."

6. This is just like when CBS cancelled the Reagan movie
and when ABC refused to show the moveon.org ad during the Superbowl. I would not be surprised if the networks use this as an excuse not to show the ads, even if the RNC does not have a case. The RNC certainly does not have a legal decision to back them up.

Moveon.org should shift their advertising dollars to the newspapers, then. Print media does not have to rely on a license from the federal government. The Washington Post told Nixon to go shove it when he tried to intimidate them during Watergate. Nixon had successfully intimidated the networks and stifled them.

10. RNC=CBS=CNN=ABC=MURDOCH
This is just the RNC providing the exit clause for their buddies in the other RNC new media organizations. That way they can be blatantly partisan but still pretend to be unbiased.... "They made us do it..."

I'm right. The station censorship is the truly most scary thing I've heard in my life.

Too little, too late.

8. it might be
we need an enormous amount of money to get free of this.

Our own have been forced to comply in order to keep their jobs.

Further Bush's threatening attitude has intimidated many who fear for their congressional jobs.

The media has complied, for fear of losing their lucrative jobs.

I feel as if it is out of control also and see no solution here unless there is complete overhaul or a revolution.

I sometimes contemplate, now that I am old, what I would do if I were, in today's world, a person of twenty one--just beginning my life--getting married, having a couple of children.

What would I teach them? To get as much as they can out of the system? To become souless and to join a corporation and to play that game, getting as far ahead as they can?

I once rejected that world as being so superficial and phoney as to cause me to divorce as I could no longer play that game.

What would I tell my children today--I would want to advise them as to the best path to take in order to survive with as much happiness as possible.

I would today, advise my children to buy some property, to not pay attention to how many things they can accumulate that are trendy, to work their land, to embrace those things that really nourish the soul, like smelling the earth after ploughing--and to be satisfied with the most fulfilling of all practices-that which would enrich thier soul--not that which would enrich a CEO of some corporation that demands of them that they surrender that soul in order to live i today's world of frenzied buying in order to be "in" and considered in the "upper" class because, well because one wears clothing bought in some "upper" class store.

That is not what life is about, although our corporate controllers would like us all to think that we are worhtless pieces of shit if we do not subscribe to their advertising.

Be your own person or as a wise person long ago has said

The unexamined life is not worth living.

Edited on Sat Mar-06-04 07:14 PM by hippiechick
How can they possibly claim that Moveon.org is working with the Kerry campaign when the activities of last 6 months shows that Moveon.org hasn't endorsed any Dem candidate officially, and the ads don't explicitly say 'Vote Kerry', but instead say 'Don't vote for Bush'.

Kinda like those nasty ads the Friends of Bush ran against McCain during primary season in 2000 ....

hmmmmm ... sounds like they can give it, but they can't take it, eh?

17. Just saw on CNN's "Capital Gang"
that a conservative group called Citizens United

http://www.citizensunited.org/

is going to be running anti-Kerry ads on TV.

I wonder if the RNC will complain about those? I'm guessing not.

19. Can't make up my mind if these thugs are embracing the tactics...
... of the Mafia or of the Nazis? Hmmm. The implicit threats are rather Mafia-like; but the out and out move to silence dissent is really reminiscent of the Nazis.

Jawohl. Sieg heil.

And God bless George Soros, one righteous billionaire, for supporting our efforts to get the Bushites out of our White House.

25. And since Tee-Vee stations only care about money....
"Public Trustee" my ass. Most station managers will weigh the income from MoveOn vs. the expense of having the station lawyer look into the RNC's claims and decide it's more economical to dump the ads, fuck "Freedom of Speech".

And people actually take me to task for calling these slimey brigands "ReTHUGlicans"???? Fuck your "swing voters".

27. Perhaps a tagline should be added to every MoveOn ad saying:
PRESIDENT BUSH AND THE REPUBLICAN PARTY ARE THREATENING TO PROSECUTE MOVEON.ORG AND THIS STATION FOR RUNNING THIS AD.
