US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has warned Eritrea the US will "take action" if it does not stop supporting militants in Somalia.

She said after talks with Somali President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed in Kenya's capital, Nairobi, that Eritrea's actions were "unacceptable".

She said the US would expand support for Somalia's transitional government.

Al-Shabab militants are growing in strength and 250,000 people have fled their homes in the past three months.

4. Self - interest
The instability in Somalia is pushing the growth in piracy which in turn affects the security of shipping (including oil transport) through the region.

With a thin veneer of "human rights" applied. Africans still suffering from geostrategic intrigues of imperialist powers.

8. I disagree, that's not "all" it is.
It is also a question of the direction of Somalian politics. Islamism has gained adherents because the left is a total failure there. Islamism is the only remaining force for national sovereignty. It's a challenge to local progressives to reconstitute a viable movement that is both culturally progressive and anti-imperialist.

What is your analysis?

10. Eritrea is Nigeria's problem and I don't think they have the oil reserves that require our national
interests.

Let China tow the line when the oil feilds start to fill with dead Chinese engineers

12. Actually it's more Ethiopia's problem
Eritrea is a desperately poor country, with little known or discovered natural resources.

This makes their government susceptible to well-funded organizations that have an interest in promoting Islamic fundamentalism in the Horn of Africa.
