Sanford will reimburse state for trip

Per a statement, South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford admits that he visited his mistress during a trade mission last year. He says he's reimbursing the state for the full cost of the Argentina leg of the trip.

Here's the statement from Sanford:

As noted by the Department of Commerce, I attended a trade mission with the Department of Commerce last June. As the agenda notes, the mission was spent meeting with government and private business officials in both Brazil and Argentina. This trip was handled very professionally by the Department of Commerce, and I'm proud of their work there.

However, while the purpose of this trip was an entirely professional and appropriate business development trip, I made a mistake while I was there in meeting with the woman who I was unfaithful to my wife with. That has raised some very legitimate concerns and questions, and as such I am going to reimburse the state for the full cost of the Argentina leg of this trip.

Paulo, Brazil the different of charging to Santiago and Sao Paulo only compared to all three could be insignificant. Really insignificant. It depends on the part of the aircraft, when the tickets were purchased, etc.

He should be asked to pay for the entire ticket.

We can make a demand that all the money is paid back. There were no dollars attached to anything Clinton did except for what the Republicans made of it. Money spent by Sanford is different.

I think it's actually better if he hangs onto his job; that way, we can actually retake the governorship, instead of having to run someone against André Bauer, who would be a very viable candidate.

The fact that the number one stimulus package objector used taxpayer money for booty calls is an effective weapon against every Republican. "So, you're only opposed to spending money if it does not involve hiking the Argentinian Trail?"
