No Jail Time, But $50K Fine, For Ex-Picatinny Spy Who Passed Secrets To Israel
Source: Associated Press

A New York City judge has spared an 85-year-old former U.S. Army engineer any prison time but fined him $50,000 for passing classified documents to the Israelis in the 1970s and '80s.

Federal Judge William Pauley told Ben-ami Kadish he had committed a grave offense but noted the government had dramatically reduced the charge against him.

Prosecutors agreed at a December plea hearing that they would not challenge a sentence that includes no prison time.

Kadish, who lives in Monroe Township, N.J., pleaded guilty to only one of the four conspiracy charges he originally faced.

Kadish was accused of taking home classified documents from 1979 to 1985 when he worked at the Picatinny Arsenal in Rockaway Township. The government said he let an Israeli agent photograph documents, including information about nuclear weapons, a modified version of an F-15 fighter jet and the U.S. Patriot missile air defense system.

2. I don't think the judge wants to be seen putting an 85 YO in lockdown.

Makes more sense than an international conspiracy.
