Jeb Bush, GOP: Time to leave Reagan behind
Source: Washington Times

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush said Saturday that it's time for the Republican Party to give up its "nostalgia" for the heyday of the Reagan era and look forward, even if it means stealing the winning strategy deployed by Democrats in the 2008 election.

"You can't beat something with nothing, and the other side has something. I don't like it, but they have it, and we have to be respectful and mindful of that," Mr. Bush said.

The former president's brother, often mentioned as a potential candidate in 2012, said President Obama's message of hope and change during the 2008 campaign clearly resonated with Americans.

"So our ideas need to be forward looking and relevant. I felt like there was a lot of nostalgia and the good old days in the (Republican) messaging. I mean, it's great, but it doesn't draw people toward your cause," Mr. Bush said.

"From the conservative side, it's time for us to listen first, to learn a little bit, to upgrade our message a little bit, to not be nostalgic about the past because, you know, things do ebb and flow."

5. Funny JEB is talking about "leaving Reagan behind"
Edited on Sun May-03-09 09:00 PM by Best_man23
Since his family were the ones who tried to have Reagan offed.

"The family of the man charged with trying to assassinate President Reagan is acquainted with the family of Vice-President George Bush and had made large contributions to his political campaign ... Scott Hinckley, brother of John W. Hinckley Jr. was to have dined tonight in Denver at the home of Neil Bush, one of the Vice-President's sons ... The Houston Post said it was unable to reach Scott Hinckley, vice-president of his father's Denver-based firm, Vanderbilt Energy Corporation, for comment. Neil Bush lives in Denver, where he works for Standard Oil Company of Indiana. In 1978, Neil Bush served as campaign manager for his brother, George W. Bush, the Vice-President's eldest son, who made an unsuccessful bid for Congress. Neil lived in Lubbock, Texas, throughout much of 1978, where John Hinckley lived from 1974 through 1980."

Need I say more.

13. I'll say it again - and flame away
The Bush family makes Ronald Reagan look like Thomas Jefferson. The best thing about the Reagan presidency (talks with the Soviet Union and Gorbachev) were opposed with venom by Vice President Bush. The worst parts of the Reagan presidency were thought up in the White House basement by George Herbert Walker Bush, Oliver North and all of Bush's neocon cronies (arms for hostages, illegal contra war on and on.) Ronald Reagan did a lot of bad as president, but as people, the Bush family didn't have what it takes to pull up Reagan's socks.

8. Bush is a crook who plans another coup?
I am so sick of the Bush crime family! Bush,Jr. (the retarded one) destroyed America's economy. So, Jeb wants to give billionaires all the money again, that will cure America's problems as usual, just like his retarded brother and their hero Hoover.

29. Good point. I've never heard anyone mention Jeb for President since Dummya's ratings first went
below 30% (and kept going down). Wasn't that what Poppy Bush was crying about? That Jeb no longer had an ice cube's chance of making history by becoming the third Bush family member to become POTUS?

14. Coming Soon (this month): Reagan's Entire Eight Year Presidential Diary
Later this month, Reagan's entire presidential diaries (he made detailed entries every night) will be released. Three thick volumes by Douglas Brinkley, who edited the one-volume Reagan Diaries released a few years back. I heard him on the radio just last week say that there will be some surprises for a lot of people. He wouldn't go into details, but said it was fair to say that his feelings toward George H.W. Bush may come as a surprise to some. I am guessing, from some material we've read before, that those feelings weren't exactly warm.

18. Jeb Bush--PNAC
If Jeb Bush is to be the new voice of the Republican Party, let us remember this: He was one of the original signers of the group that formed the Project for the New American Century. PNAC. This gang of hawks got us into the Iraq muddle and continues to advocate for militarism. If the Republican Party wants to continue to be identified with that, he's a good choice.

22. Time to pretend GOP policies didn't lead to the Bush Depression
and justifications for war crimes. And wars of choice for which justifications of torture needed to be written to get the evidence they wanted to pretend there were urgent reasons for their brutal shock & awe warfare.

Time to pretend the GOP wants peace and prosperity for all.

Time to pretend it wasn't Trickle-Up Economics-- thirty years just wasn't enough time to let the great wealth their deregulated market policies promised trickle down to the 95% of us that are worse off as a result.

go no farther than FL. Look at how that Bush and the republican-led legislature has ruined this state--it's disgusting. They should all hide their heads in shame.

30. Just when you thought it was safe to discard your Bush to English dictionary,
here comes Jeb Bush, trying his best to be noticed again. Someone is going to have to help me because I threw out my copy.

1/ First look-up:

"You can't beat something with nothing, and the other side has something. I don't like it, but they have it, and we have to be respectful and mindful of that," Mr. Bush said

Please somebody: What the hell does that mean, in English?

2/ "Time to give up nostalgia for Reagan"

Oh wait, never mind. I think I figured out that one on my own. In Bushspeak, it means, "Let's stop reminding American voters of Reagan. They are finally catching on to what Reaganomics REALLY means and what it does to the American economy--and are they FURIOUS."
