Malaysian fisherman uses WWII bomb as anchor: report
Source: AFP

KUALA LUMPUR (AFP) — A Malaysian fisherman has been using a deadly World War II bomb as an anchor for his boat, according to a report Saturday.

Local police made the shocking discovery Thursday during a routine patrol in a fishing village in the southern Johor state.

The fisherman had been using the bomb for several months and thought it was safe on account of its age, the Star newspaper reported.

Police alerted the bomb squad who removed the 160mm device to be destroyed.

Officers discovered eight similar bombs in the village after following up on information obtained from the fisherman.

2. Kenny Stabler's bio
he told the story of some good old boys down in the Muscle Shoals area who dynamited fish. The local sheriff/game warden gave them a friendly warning saying that he would hear if they were still doing it....so they went to Sears, got 10 feet of metal fencing, and a DieHard battery---they electrocuted them instead. It is much more quiet.

4. I am in the next town over from Muscle Shoals
AT the bottom of the TVA dam, you can see some of the biggest catfish in the world. 6 feet long. Scary as hell for the divers.

8. The way I heard that story
The Sheriff warned 'em to stop or he'd arrest them. They lit a stick, tossed it to him and said, "Hey, you gonna' fish or just talk all day?"

7. Well if it hasn't exploded in seventy plus years I wouldn't exactly
call it deadly...

10. At the end of the article it mentions one that blew up. It was deadly for two of the three
people involved in trying to salvage the metal from one. Obviously something still explosive/deadly in those things, even after seventy plus years.

16. So are the Germans

My husband was in Augsburg a few summers ago when a construction crew found an old US bomb that had landed but never exploded. Needless to say, construction was halted while the thing was defused and extracted.

on edit: oops. I missed the fact that you specified WWI. The bomb I was referring to was WWII.

15. There's a great French film
(made in the late 50's-early 60's) about a mountain shepard who has an unexploded bomb near his house. After years of living in fear, waiting for this thing to explode, he takes matters into his own hands and from a safe distance shoots the bomb. The casing ruptures exposing a fortune in US Dollars.

Armed with his new found wealth he goes to Paris and proceeds to ruin his life.
