Rival cobblers claim credit for shoes hurled at Bush
By Waleed Ibrahim

BAGHDAD, Dec 17 (Reuters) - Call it product placement. Across the Middle East, rival shoemakers have claimed it was they who created the footwear flung at U.S. President George W. Bush by an angry Iraqi and immortalised by TV cameras.

For many, reporter Muntazer al-Zaidi is a hero for the attack on Bush, and some of the glory seems to have rubbed off on the shoes that almost connected with the presidential head.

Suggestions have been made that they came from cobblers in Turkey or Lebanon -- or, like most of the shoes in Iraq, are Chinese-made. But on Wednesday, the brother of Zaidi dismissed such reports:

"One hundred percent they are Iraqi-made shoes," Udai al-Zaidi told Reuters. "His shoes are not Chinese, nor Turkish."

2. Where can I buy them?
It sickens me that all the shoes in America are now made in communist China.

4. Last public appearance?
I think this could be Dubya's last public appearance. No lecture circuit. No book signings. No meet and greet opportunities. There's enough people all over America that would LOVE to hurl a loafer at him that he may not want to risk getting beaned. And unlike grenades, pistols, machetes, and the like, everyone in the audience has a valid reason to be wearing shoes. Security could never screen for people's intentions; leave them on, or slip one off and give it a quick toss?

Edited on Wed Dec-17-08 12:27 PM by Hubert Flottz
Now it's Omar The Cobbler!

People will soon forget Jessie James, Billy the Kid and Bonnie and Clyde, but the whole world will always remember the loafers that almost took out the "Mother Of All Loafers"

La Palin, it wasn't the reality of the Deal he had in mind that was ever the concern. It was the nature of the transaction that scared everyone witless.

By the way, that was one of the funniest headlines on here in a long time, I think.

flight path. The design allows the shoe to stay aloft longer at slower speeds so even the women and children can throw them accurately (these are my wing tips). For the beginners we have developed a shoe with tracers so that you know how to adjust your throw with the second shoe. And for the advanced we have developed a special shoe whose aerodynamics allow it to be thrown around corners or hit targets hiding behind a podium! Order now while we have them in stock. Remember, one size hits all.
